Need spare key: I have the original key codes

I have both the original Electronic Code, and the Mechanical Code, for a 2012 Fiat 500 Studio I purchased used this year.
But I need a spare key, and want to know the best/cheapest place to get a new key programmed and cut. The local dealer should be able to do it, but I think would charge too much.
    Any suggestions?

A new key used to run about $225. I'm not a tech so what follows is basically hearsay. A key can only be written to ONCE, so trying to reprogram a used key isn't going to work.

I don't think there's much choice but to get the new from a dealer and as far as I know they are the only one who can program the electronic portion as both the car and one key that still works must be present.

If you are only needing a spare to unlock the car in the event you lock your keys in the car you may want to see if you can get just the key part cut. This will allow you to place some where on the car for just such an emergency. I would not try to start the car with this key. In the event the FOB has a chip that communicates with the car this could screw things up. I know this is the case for some other brands of car. Not sure if just the key part can be cut, but if it can and that would solve your problem it sure would be a whole lot cheaper. Just a thought.

A locksmith can cut you a new key and program it. It takes about 3-5 minutes to program after it's cut, if you have one of the original keys. Key FOBs are $50 to $150, depending on where you buy them, plus the cost of cutting/programming it.

If both keys were missing, it's a bit trickier but many shops can "hack" the codes and make one even w/o the key code.

You can only buy OEM key fobs in pairs. About 250 bucks, plus 120 for the dealership to program to your car.
Like mention above. Have a key blank cut. It will only be used to open the car, not start it. Ace hardware has this service available......
