Well, this is sad if true

    https://www.autoblog.com/2019/09/01/...ng-production/

I posted this under the news section of the forum, but wanted to bring it to the Abarth specific section.

A neighbor of mine who recently left a note on my Abarth asking to meet up because he's in the market for a used one, just messaged me this tidbit. Dated today, 1 Sept 2019.
2012 Abarth - Grigio, Black Stripe/Mirror Caps, Black Leather seats, Sunroof, Convenience & Safety Package. PPF from mirror caps forward and interior LED Don't drive much, but when I do it's always fun!

At least Fiat isnít leaving NA all together. I surprise Fiat is still selling the 500L. Itís sales number are extremely poor. The small 500, in Europe is the top sell city car. Fiat should have updated the tiny 500 here. Since Honda and Mini are introducing new EDís, next year. Iíd be interested in this Fiat ED.

I think fiat is done here. They are good at small cars and cant even sell them here. They dont bring over other good small cars they make. They are gonna bet on electric apparently, well the Japanese, and germans will absolutly crush them in electroc cars.i think they are done. Hope alfa survives.

Ohh I thought the one disappeared. I got a call and dodnt tjink it posted sorr.

That electric concept.you posted is an interesting design. But it looks like an american style crossover. Even tougher market to compete in than small cars. The hybrid and electric crossover market is going to be deep in coming years. Looking at sales, I would say their current crossovers arent doing so well.

In the Abarth line, bring us more models like the 595, 595 Comp, 695 Biposto, etc. I would have gladly bought 1 595 Comp. And what about the Fiat truck? C'mon FCA, bring us more models to choose from.

The problem with this is that Americans will not only avoid small cars, they will avoid expensive small cars even more.

I blame Fiat for not supporting the brand enough, but American tastes in automobiles are on the level of social dysfunction. I am beginning to entertain the idea that the popularity of grotesque vehicles like the F-150 (along with their "POWER STROKE" engine- you don't need to be a shrink to figure THAT one out) correlates with the political and socioeconomic anxiety running rampant in the country. People are compensating for a sense of emasculation.

As car enthusiasts, our taste in cars is the polar opposite of what the general public likes. They don't get us and we don't get them.

You absolutely right. It's a society where people crave what they really camt afford and an industry keen to lower standards and incentivise till those misguided souls can just pull off the purchase. You also have the used luxury car dealership explosion. Usually an eastern European owner selling 100k+ mile crap to people who.dint even realise they cant afford to maintain them. This also leads to unregistered and uninsured cars all over the road smashing into responsible citizens.

The auto finance industry is complicate as well. Anxious to offer 24% interest rates on high mileage crap to 2 time repo customers.

The Japanese are hugely to blame they brought the concept of commodity luxury and the cut price high line cars with cash on the hood and in the trunk.

Build Quality of the german cars has dropped immensely as a result of the japs. In about 1996, mercedes and audi dropped their average markup from nearly 18% to like 6%. Its since dropped a little more. Of course this necessitated drops in the invoice and actual cost to dealers as well. This combined with increase costs for safety, and the billions spent to meet future and present fuel economy mandates(not that these are bad thing) has brought the quality of the cars down even further because they dont have the profits per unit they used to. And while they have had massive volume increases especially in suv and entry level sectors, the profits are much lower.

Interestingly, of all major auto manufacturers, porsche makes more per unit than any. This may have changed in recent years. But they were that absolute champion for many many years since they modernised production in the 80s.
