    A long overdue post

It's been several months since I've perused the posts on a daily basis, admittedly somewhat to my discredit, but not without good reason. However, it's now time to get back to "business as usual".

Yesterday I watched Aldo --my 2012 Argento 500 Sport-- leave my driveway with its new owner. Soon it will be time for my 2012 Abarth to do the same. Never in a million years would I have imagined selling any of my Fiats, --- that is until last December when Life tossed MrFiat a curve ball. The long and the short of the story is that last December I lost most of my eyesight. Reading the boards has been a challenge and the main reason for my absence. Normally this is not the sort of thing that is a topic for public consumption, but in this case, perhaps there's a good reason for it.

this is a car forum. We wouldn't be here unless we enjoyed driving Fiats and indeed driving cars in general. I'm a 76 yer old kid who loves to drive and has lived with Fiats since his early 20's, so it should come as no surprise that selling off my cars would be rather unusual. And it is. It took a while to come to grips with the fact that MrFiat will never drive a car again on the open road. And to any "car person" that comes as close to the definition of a catastrophy as one can get. But that's life and we do our best to adjust.

The 500 Sport has found a good home with an enthusiastic driver who also lives in the neighborhood. The good news is that I can still see well enough to work on the cars. The last couple of weeks saw me working on a friends 74 Fiat Dino Spider and helping a friend on the West coast prepare his Abarth 750 GT Double Bubble for the Pebble Beach Concours. Great fun.

So why this post ? It's a "heads-up"for all my Fiat Family to thoroughly savor and enjoy every moment on the road. It's a gift. It's also a sobering truth that it can end without a moments notice.

No sympathy needed or desired please. I'd much rather think of this as a public service message. And by the way, It's good to be back on the boards again.

I fractured some end plates in my spine, it hasn't been smooth sailing since but I know exactly what you mean by driving being a gift. Thanks for the story! Hope to see more photos of you working on Italian cars.

    Good luck with your vision.

There are some amazing things they can do today to restore sight. Check out some of the experimental stuff or get yourself into a clinical trial.

(Notice that I didn't say, "Look into"!)

Thanks for checking in and for the PSA. Wishing you all the best.

That double bubble is so stinking cool it blows me away every time I stumble upon a picture of it. <3

We use to show, our smart car at the miniature car show here. It was actual a monster, compared to some of the little cars there.

This one guy, always showed his, Abarth 750 double bubble car. Neat little vehicle.

Neat vehicle indeed. I've not seen one in the flesh (so to speak). This car is a follow-up to the double bubble. It's still an Abarth 750 but this one is a Record Monza coupe with a flat roof line. Still a Zagato designed automobile. Very very neat indeed. Thanks for the photo.

A pity you don't live closer. We'd take the DB out for a ride and Oh Darn, you'd have to drive !
