Have any of you read this? The title had me excited but, it’s not a good review. Hell its got me wondering if I’d rather have a Mazda (I don’t actually want a Mazda). I get it, everyone wants the stupid electronics and slushbox but, if FCA is gonna force such a high base price, make it able to perform within its competition.

I think that article's author has it right... the kinda "fun" 500X offers isn't canyon carving or drag strip tearing kinds. Realistically, the typically buyers for these sit-up-high, short-wheelbase, cute ute aren't really into that sort of shenanigans anyway.

Our 500X is my wife's little run about. It's "fun" because it looks very distinctive... inside and outside. Frankly, most of the other cute ute's all pretty much look alike, if you squint hard enough. At the $34k sticker price, it is not at all competitive with the others in this class. However, at the price we paid, it is an absolute bargain for something with such uniquely Italian flair.

My wife already had the Abarth when I bought the 500X. I did my research and bought a base Pop on purpose. The Abarth can jump away from a stop but, that’s all she gets. Chris was a little aggravated the first time she tried. I was next to her grinning and waving between shifts. She has 400-500 less lbs and a quicker spool from the Abarth exhaust and that’s it in a straight line. Same engine. I smile every day beating my car around. It’s almost as fun as hers, just quieter. A second slower 0-60 for an updated model is an embarrassment no matter how you try to downplay it.

Car and Driver finally tested the Renegade platform mate with the new 1.3 Turbo and it’s a complete letdown...

    https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/

Despite all of the 1.3’s supposed efficiency improvements, it still managed 1 LESS mpg on the highway then the old 1.4. 24mpg average and only 29 on the highway?? PITIFUL! It’s also SLOWER then the 2.4 AWD and the 1.4AWD manual. No point to this engine whatsoever. And sadly, it apparently lost the musical aura of the 1.4 as well. And $34k for a loaded model, HOLY COW!

They're losing their sh*t over two tenths of a second, in a car that isn't exactly a contender for the NHRA AA stock class.

"With a zero-to-60-mph time of 9.0 seconds, it’s 0.2 second slower than a similarly equipped 2015 Renegade Limited 4x4 powered by the 2.4-liter engine and 0.3 second slower than a 2015 Renegade with the less-powerful 1.4-liter engine. (Admittedly, the 1.4L Renegade was previously only offered with a manual transmission, while the new model has only a nine-speed automatic regardless of engine.)"

I think the point of the engine is the torque boost, which should make it more tractable, plus meeting EPA and emissions standards.

I've been reading more reviews lately, and thanks to digital media, the profession of automotive journalism has really gone downhill.

They should question it. Its more advanced, more refined and way more expensive, I Damn sure better expect more. Equal would be embarrassing. It needs to be better at everything or its a waste of time.

It's better at a LOT of things, including its AWD system and the upgrades they gave it. Seriously, if two tenths of a second (which can vary from car to car) is a deal killer, then you're not in the market for this kind of car at all, even if it were a half second FASTER. In daily driving, no one could tell the difference.

I will never understand Fiat marketing- this loaded car has a $5000 discount off MSRP, before you walk into the dealership. They did the same thing with the 500s back in the day. If you can sell it at this price, then SELL IT AT THIS PRICE.
