    Alone in Vermont...

So I took my new (to me) 500e to an EV event Saturday. Among the vendors was "Drive Electric Vermont" - an organization that tracks and promotes EV's here in Vermont. They had a list of the number of registered EV's in the state by make and model, and what do you know - there's only one Fiat 500e and it's mine!!! I wasn't sure whether to feel special or alone, but I have to admit I was a little surprised. Hopefully more will migrate east as the lease returns continue, but for now I guess it's just little ol' me...lol!

EV communities are scattered... I wish there was one in MI.
I believe I am not the only one in MI, but it seems all alone in Lansing area.

Did you drive the 500e through this last winter? I"m just wondering how it handled the cold and snow.

    No, not really.
Hard to say how it handles in snow as the tires I have are one of the cheapest ones and the front ones are qiote worn.
Once I put winter rubber on, I will know more.

    As for the cold.
Man, cold weather is a game changer.
With low temp outside you use battery much quicker. It means, cabin heater could easily eat 8 kW. The other thing is cold battery. Sure, there is a heater, but it takes energy from the battery as well...
So now, after a charge I get the guessometer to tell me I got 115 miles.
On witer I could barely reach 60 on it, and roughly, with some limited heat on, that is 66 F - 69 F inside cabin, while ambient was +10 F, on my roundtrip (work/home), which is 8.5 miles one way with max speeds 40 mph and time of 20 minutes, with morning leaving garage at temp of 45-55 F, I could use 15% battery one way. Some days 40% for the roundtrip.

What I dislike is that regen braking does NOT kick in until some time into the trip.
I recently learnt a trick - use CC to slow it down, meaning set cruise at 25 mph, and when approaching intersection - resume CC. It will bring the speed to 25 mph while putting energy back to the battery. And do it until the regen brake starts working.

I had very limited winter experience as it was only March. Not to say we still hit around 0 F temperatures. Especially on the day I bought the car... 62 miles away. That was another terror story when I experienced range anxiety and arrived home with 1% left.

I'm planning on driving mine this winter so I'll be curious to see what it does. My commute is only about 22 miles round trip, so it shouldn't be an issue. I had a 500c before, and with snows it was fine for winter driving. I would think the added weight of the batteries will actually be a plus for traction... I'll find out sooner than I want to - summer goes too fast!!!

One thing I need to add.

Traction control work much better in EVs. It is more refined, I'd say. There is no this sudden deceleration when you start loosing grip. In ICE it would feel like engine bogs down, in EV it drops the power a bit, but still keeps pulling.

Do you mean after starting out with a full battery? It's trying to avoid overcharging the battery until it has depleted a bit. This is common in EV's.
