This will bring 16 marquis under 1 roof. Plus FCA commercial equipment.
My first thought is what will this do to the FCA marquis name sake. “FIAT” & “CHRYSLER”? Will Chrysler car line and marquee go to the history books? Will FIAT pull out of the North American market? Mitsubishi has already seen positive results from the merger. I hope this proves to be a good merger. Personally I was hoping for a merger with Hyundai.

Yeah, Hyundai would be my choice as well - lots of room for the small, 500 in countries Hyundai is strong in?

Fiat Chrysler - Renault Merger Proposed

    Fiat500USA.com
    Has Just Posted the Following:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has made a proposal to France's Renault to create the world's third-biggest automaker, just behind Toyota and Volkswagen. This proposal is in response to the staggering costs of upcoming forced governmental regulations, technology mandates, and changing markets. A so-called merger of equals will generate 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) in annual savings and give a ...

What a bad idea that would be. I know Renault still is a major European player, but French design is poor and quality control at Renault even worse. Yes, even worse than FCA.

I submit one of the reasons Nissan has struggled is because of Renault design philosophy being foisted into the company.

At work we recently were trying some turbine fuel pumps provided by a French supplier of Renault. Not only were the specs not up to par, when we tried testing them they self-destructed. Doing some post failure metallurgy tests and X Ray, found numerous manufacturing and forging flaws that should have been found in the QC process.

If you will recall when Renault was here before they had teamed up with AMC/Jeep. That was a joke and they bailed out.
The only thing the French are good at is nothing.

Ouch. Don't want to bash on an ethnicity too hard:

Ehem... Anyway, the French have also made their share of interesting and even cool cars over the years - AMC era notwithstanding.

Here's hoping that some of Nissan would rub off on everyone. However, maybe the Japanese are slipping up on their own. My son got a Subaru and I've been working on it and getting up to speed and man, they have their issues. Plus, price a headlight for a 2014 Corolla. When the LED headlight goes out you need to buy the whole light and it is $$$ and the aftermarket ones burn out prematurely. Not to mention oil burning on some Toyotas and then there are trans issues with Hondas, so the grass is turning brown on the other side of the fence it seems. LOL

Big question I have what is this going to mean for Nissan? What about Infiniti? What about Alfa? What about fiat? Would French brand come here?

I'm still a little salty that Nissan made a really cool variable compression engine... and offers it in a single Infiniti crossover... What!?

Speaking of Infinity the joint adventure they had going with Mercedes Benz was cancelled by Mercedes. Will they be turning to Alfa now for joint effort? As stated before the marquis I see having issues will be Chrysler and Fiat. As I recall Renault is basically a head on competitor with Fiat. Not sure what Chrysler is bringing to the table other than its name. No cars in there lineup are fresh. They could rebadge an Infinity suv and call it the New Yorker or try to bring back the Imperial. Since Nissan, Datsun and Mitsubishi are strong in small trucks what will this do at RAM? Last year at Fiat on Dragon there were some Renault’s there on Saturday. While talking with them they pointed out that the Renault influence was strong on the Versa. Wonder if this could be the case on a lot of future cars coming from the group. Marketed as brand X in one area of the world and as brand B in another region. I guess time will tell.
