    Unhappy Weird Issue While Driving

    Hello everyone:

Has anyone experienced the following? I'm driving anywhere from 65-70 mph for a few seconds, the speedometer gauge moves back and forth, the digital speedometer does the same (displayed speed goes up then down to driving speed), immediately after the ABS, DST, Hill Assist and Traction control all show on the display that they are unavailable. The only way to reset them all is to turn off the engine and re-start.

Second issue is that whenever I do a normal brake to slow down, randomly the hazard lights will turn on as if I was slamming on the brakes which I'm not. Then I have to press on the hazard light switch to turn off the flashing lights.

Anyone experienced this? I was going to attach a short video but it won't let me upload a video, just a photo.

    What year 500L?

    How many miles?

    Have you replaced the battery?

Check all connections relating to the charging system. Esp the battery ground. When you get multiple errors at the same time its usually the battery failing or corroded ground connections.

Agreed. A loose battery ground post cable clamp caused multiple lights when I hit my brakes on two dofferent occassions; once it stalled the engine. Cranking was slow on the restart, giving notice of a depleted charge. Charge is impeded by loose or fouled connections. Brake use is then the last bit of juice the battery can support and triggers voltage sensitive sensors to signal errors.

It has 115k miles, I replaced the battery about a year ago. I have noticed acid build up on the negative post that I keep having to clean.

Thanks! Any opinions on what is best to use to prevent the acid build up? The auto parts shop sells all kinds of items such as grease, the round washer-type felt, any of these better than the other?

Believe it or not just keeping a battery near full charge will prevent it from emitting the acid. Batteries that sit on a low charge tend to emit a gas that causes the acid build-up. If you can put the car on a battery tender once every two weeks/even once a month You would see a noticeable drop in build-up and the battery would last a lot longer.

That usually means the ground connection is bad. Don't know where the ground strap is on a 500L, but you need to check that is firmly connected and not corroded.

Is this the other side of the negative cable?

Well, I cleaned both battery posts and clamps, went out for a test drive and the issue is still there. Would the relays or fuses need to be replaced?
