First 2 autocross events of 2019

During the first weekend of March I made my way to South Carolina and drove 2 autocross events with my son. For the trip I left the Abarth at home and we drove his 2011 BMW 335is. Let me tell you, the difference in driving to go from front wheel drive Abarth to rear wheel BMW was quite a contrast to say the least! I enjoyed having more power, only spun out once, and had a blast. Between the two courses we had one big wide open course at ZMax in Charlotte, and then a small and tight course at Darlington the next day. My son beat me in his own car, but I bet I had more fun! The Central Carolina Region SCCA event had about 180 drivers, and for a moment I got up to 3rd in the STU class, but on the final run of the day a Porsche Boxster S beat me by about 0.2 seconds. Oh well, not too bad for driving a different car for the first time!

Back at home, I've finally seen the schedule for 3 clubs that are autocrossing on Long Island, the BMW folks, a Porsche Club, and the NY Region of SCCA. I still haven't decided how many events I'll do this year, but the trip down south reminded me that autocross is especially fun if you're driving with other folks and friends and just trying to drive fast. I've got a link to our mostly autocross blog below if you need more info or reading material. If you haven't autocrossed, I'd say give it a shot!
