How is Dirt Rally? Dirt 3 was punishingly hard, but the series has historically been very good.

My wife wants to learn a 4-string instrument too, a ukulele! Admittedly not as cool as your future bass.

You should get a U-bass. It's the size of a Ukelele but has the rich, deep sound of a bass. Honestly, plugged into an amp, you would never suspect that such a deep sound comes out of such a small instrument.

That's possibly the most peculiar thing I didn't know I needed.

My son's the expert as I don't get a chance to do much gaming anymore, and he says Dirt Rally is good with a wheel. I crashed continuously with the VR set up so I'm terrible with that. Next week or so Dirt Rally 2.0 is coming out and looks promising. As long as it has some vintage Fiats and Lancias I'm good to go. LOL

The bass I'm getting is a Mikro Bass - about 28.6" scale length so not too big. Might even look like a ukulele compared to a fullsize bass. haha It is supposed to have a good sound for being so small. I've had hand and wrist injuries so the small scale bass will be easier to deal with. The ukulele sounds like fun. Where is she getting it?

I'm pushing for craigslist! If she's still playing in 3 months she's welcome to the bamboo Martin that she actually wants. No harm in having a cheapo and a nice one.

Makes sense. I was checking out craigslist myself, but the ones I found looked tired and by the time I bought strings and fooled with it, I wasn't saving much. It's a pretty cheap bass so I don't know how durable they are, and a used one may be worn and need work to make right, so I'm back to looking at new.

I'd like to get it locally, but Amazon is pretty easy and they have bundles with tuners and a gig bag sometimes.

I was a manager at Sam Ash Music for several years. We would deal in used instruments all the time. If you buy a used bass or guitar, you really want to check the neck out. Look from the side at the neck in relation to the strings. If u or n shaped, it could be fixed with a simple adjustment to the truss rod done buy a certified tech. Look from the bottom of the instrument. You want to look from one side of the bridge across to the opposite side of the nut (left bridge to right nut and vice versa). If there are any twists in the neck it could mean a costly repair.

Thanks for the heads up. That was my concern. This bass is pretty cheap @$179 and all the used ones were like $80-$140. Because it's cheap and a small-scale, a lot of kids get them so I'm sure some don't get the best treatment. By the time I go through fixing and adjusting stuff, I figured for a few bucks more I'd be better off just getting a new one. I watched a lot of videos on adjusting action an stuff, but I don't really know what I'm doing, so I rather just start playing and not spend time learning how to fix stuff or spend $$ on getting a real tech to make it right.

What are the possibilities a local music store would make a deal on a new one and include something like a gig bag? Is there any money in these things or does the distributor/manufacturer give the stores special assistance for package deals? I don't want to be a jerk and chisel them out of their profit, but If I can get close to the same deal as Amazon I'd rather throw some money at the local place.

    Thanks again!
