Agreed. Whenever I actually feel serious about shopping I head over the the RX8 Club classifieds (compression tests with every car!) but there never seems to be anything affordable or near me. Maybe I'll suck it up and ship one. Need to find one to drive first, no point in going to the trouble if I hate it.

Yeah... but at 2000rpm cruising around town? =P (Yes I know, you don't cruise @ 2k in a wankel, they don't like that.)

Hmmm, I had thought really anything sustained under 3000 RPM was basically "lugging" a dorito.

Nice looking Yellow 8 with a Mazdaspeed body kit in WI, engine replaced 30k ago... with another poor engine... Poor owner is getting a second opinion because the dealer didn't have the right tester. Might be tempted if it's actually a strong motor.

The MS body kit if legit is almost worth the 7k. (front bumper goes for 3-5k)
The engine does have low compression but that doesn't mean you couldn't drive it for a few thousand miles while saving up for a remain. If you were to test drive it, try to start it while it's hot.

I have a good friend with a LY but his is super charged. It's a great color but bugs try to pollinate it when he parks

    shameless plug

OMG! Your hood prop reminded me!

At Cars and Coffee this weekend the local VW club was out in force. With them they had a couple W8 Passats and one of the dudes brought a block as a show piece! The W8 makes so much more sense to me now! XD Definitely the highlight of the show for me.

Indeed, it's certainly unique in a good way.

I need to go rewatch Engineering Explained's video of why the VR6 is bad. It's so sad to me that you can only get them in the Atlas now. Yawn...

I would LOOOVE a nice R32, but would definitely settle for a winter beater TT with the VR6.

"Ignorance" is definitely the first word that comes to mind when I think of North America's perception of FIAT, that's for sure.

    BTW I'm in love again...

The real question is S54 or Dinan Supercharged S52? (I don't care as long as it's blue!)

Thanks Ando, I've been reading about the company most of my life and decided to put it all in one place so others can easily gain access to this information and see why us old time Fiat guys carried the torch all these years. Most is sourced from the official company timeline, company documents, statements, press releases, archives and people that worked with or for the company, and well known accredited histories. There is what seems like an endless list of innovations, first time evers and historic events. Lately, I've been going through Dante Giacoso's book "Forty Years of Design with Fiat" and just today I was reminded that he designed a combustion chamber for the cylinder head of an engine in the 1930s that was still being used 40+ years later by other manufacturers. I recommend that book to anyone who is interested in automotive design and history.

Switching gears, I took a tour of BMW's Spartanburg factory in the 1990s just before the introduction of the M Coupe. They had pre-production models lined up under covers tucked away in the corner of the factory, away from prying eyes. Surprisingly, my host gave us a quick peek and pulled the cover off the car. I always liked the model as it had a very European look to it and reminded me of the exotic sport coupes from the 1960s. If I ever quite holding out for a new GTV6 coupe to replace my old one, a BMW M3/M4 would be my choice.
