Question About Remote Key Compatability And Programing...

    Hello,

i just purchased a near new 2017 500x (1.4 turbo POP) however only received one remote key. I have found a good used 2016 remote key that LOOKS identical. Does anyone know how or if it is possible to reprogram this 2016 key/remote to work with my 2017? I do realize I will also need to get another key blade cut to the same pattern as my existing key. Any help would be appreciated (approx cost and if possible to do so).

    Thanks,
    RossoRocket

In case anyone else has also wondered about remote key programming I have linked a very helpful thread (that saved me some money and a lot of wasted time and frustration). Thank you to the OP (Fast_Dave) for all this hard earned and useful information. The thread is from another forum (I hope that is okay) https://www.fiat500owners.com/forum/...ce-so-far.html

Thanks for the "atta boy" - sure glad that saga is over. So much misinformation back then regarding the subject...

Happy New Year and enjoy your new 500X 6 Speed Manual (with mods) - for the most part it's a larger Abarth with an extra cruising gear.

I've secretly wanted a 500x w/ 6 Speed Manual for quite some time because I considered them to be a "Q-Ship" - able to cruise fast, while remaining unnoticed...

It would be great/I'd really appreciate to see you post some of your experiences with it in the 500X section, especially given that you've previously owned an actual ABARTH to compare it to.

Would love to hear about how it feels off the line, mid range passing, and high speed cruising ;-)

    Hello Fast_Dave,

I am only sporadically on forums however I will do my best to pass on what I have noticed.

First - I find the 500x seats to be pretty damn comfortable (my ABARTHs seats were firmer with a bit more bolstering and our 500e seats are my least favorite - no real bolstering and feel a bit cheap/hard). So for me the 500x seats are the best compromise.

Second - while the 500x 1.4:turbo is heavier than the ABARTH it still feels “quick/fast” especially when you add a piggyback tuner. Our 2.4 tigershark AWD feels somewhat slow and utilitarian in comparison to the 500x 1.4 and downright slow compared to the ABARTH. If I want to relax I’ll take the 2.4 and if I want to “get on it” I’ll take the 1.4 turbo (the 500e is a great combination and can be fun to get on it and toss it around OR drive sedately).

Third - the size and ride firmness of the 500x is about ideal for me these days (it is significantly bigger than the ABART/500e however still not too big (just my opinion) and I find the ride to be firm however not harsh (once again just my opinion)). I do not find the ABARTH or the 500e to be harsh or extreme it’s just that the added wheel travel that the 500x has is better for me as a daily driver.

Fourth - it is MUCH easier to work on the 500x (for me at least). The ABARTH really has everything shoehorned in to that tiny engine compartment. I would almost always end up bleeding after wrenching in the ABARTH’s engine compartment.

I think the ABARTH is a GREAT car and I am not trying diminish its attributes in any way - just offering some of my opinions in a comparison between the two (or four actually ABARTH, 500x 2.4 AWD, 500x 1.4 turbo and the 500e)...

    Hope this helps a bit,
    RossoRocket

    @Rosso Rocket -

Thanks for all of your views on the ABARTH, 500X 2.4 & 500x 1.4 - Highly appreciated!

Also appreciate real world info - i.e. ease of working within the 500x engine compartment, as I turn my own wrenches.

It's so hard to get info on the 500x 1.4 - especially a modded one. If I had one, I'd be going the same route as you. Great to get this info down for future prospective owners, as these 500x's pass through different owners.

I'm partial to the 500x 1.4 with the "row your own" transmission (and any car with a row your own" option).
