I had a BLAST yesterday driving my Abarth on a track at Pocono! I could talk for hours about all the stuff that happened, so the short version: FUN FUN FUN!
Here's just one of SIX 20 minute sessions I got on track:
For track I'm not an advanced driver, so there was limited passing allowed in the HPDE 1 group, so you'll see some passing, and for a highlight go to 13:34 when the 4th car ahead of me spins out, and then we pass him. Driving on track with an instructor is a GREAT way to improve you driving skills, become VERY aware of everything around you, and have FUN! Did I mention having FUN?
Besides driving 6 times, we had several classroom instruction sessions, and then I rode along with my great instructor when he was driving his BMW Spec racer with the more advanced groups. I learned by just riding with him and watching how he drove, and learned so much with him instructing me on track.
Man, even though we had some rain, it was great to get wet and dry experience all day.
I'll probably write up a blog about it, but man, if you haven't gotten on track, I can highly recommend the NASA Northeast guys http://www.nasane.com, and there are plenty of other groups and clubs that do track events too. The Abarth is not a McLaren or a Porsche on track, but for learning to drive on track it's pretty fun too!
Here's me, my car, my instructor's car, and a McLaren that was there for some other event going on at the same time at Pocono.
