Lifting all 4 corners... how and where to jack up the rear?

    Hi All,

Time to flush the brake fluid and check the pads for wear on the wife's 2016 500X Pop.

I've gotten good with jacking the front of the vehicle using a rubber pad on my 3 ton floor jack, placed under the rear engine cross member. Tricky to get the jack to this point (you need to get at it from behind the front wheels, as the engine pan is in the way), but it'll lift the front end in one go. This leaves a few obvious places for jack stands.

The rear half of the car is new to me, and I don't want to mash anything with the floor jack. I finally invested in a set of Esco jack stands which really ease the mind placing jacks under painted surfaces that modern cars seem to have.

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

I used the pinchweld points that are called out in the manual. It will help if your jack has a slot for the weld to sit into.

I like to carefully lift it from the rear beam and put jack stands on the sides; there's also some hefty bolts on the front subframe you can do the same with so jack stands can be used on all 4 corners if needed. On that note, unless no option, I do one end at a time off the ground..

Here is an image of the 500X lifting points and info from the repair manual:

"The points for lifting the vehicle using the lift are marked on the side skirts with the symbols shown in the figure.

    NOTE:
Be careful to select the lift pads sized to fit to the underbody of the car. Also, make sure to correctly place the pads themselves at the openings indicated on the sill cladding. These openings are not necessarily aligned with the triangle markings, which are specifically related to the recommended location for the emergency jack, provided with the vehicle."

Admin note: Above is the lifting point for a lift. Notice it is closer to the centerline of the car, nearer the B pillar than the jacking points below.

Where would I lift it? Probably at the lifting point and then use a jack stand on the pinchweld with an appropriate pinchweld pad. YMMV

    Thanks, All!

    Lots to think about.

FWIW, Esco jackstands are a great investment. Not only are they very strong and sturdy, but the flat rubber tops are kind to the painted undersides. Attached is my one jack to lift the front end!
