Ricciardo to Renault in 2019

Never seen that coming, is official Daniel signs with Renault for 2019. He either will look like a genius or his dreams for a World title will be no more ( Renault was a power house in the 80's) time will tell. The remaining question now is, who will take his place @ RedBull and what happens to Sainz?

I'm surprised but this is good for RIC. RB clearly favors Max for good reason... he's young and everyone is betting on him being the future of F1. He didn't like playing second fiddle to SEB either so I'm sure this was no surprise to the team. They asked for it.

Saint can go to RB... he and MAX can cause accidents and great radio communications.

This is the right thing for RIC to do. Kimi's going nowhere so my dream of RIC driving for SF will not likely ever happen.

Probably a good chance to take for RIC, as he stated, Renault has always won championships when they enter F1, so maybe they can do it again. Considering he beat Vettel when they were both at Red Bull, he could really be a champion in the right car.

Red Bull has lots of options for 2nd driver, so who knows.

I see this move as being a similar sort of gamble to Hamilton's decision to move to Mercedes.

So the question is whether lightning will strike a second time (with Renault quickly rising to the very high level of competition that would be necessary to make Ricciardo a champion).

Agree 100% Ricciardo is looking to build a team around him ( Max is a amazing talent and redbull is backing him over Ricciardo who's 29 years old). Ricciardo gave Seb hell when they were team mates @ RB and he is a hack of driver. Do hope Sainz will go to RedBull it would b very interesting too see Max/Carlos( Carlos still under RB contract) race at the same team again. but not seeing it happens. maybe he will follow his father footsteps and race WRC or go race for Sauber Alfa Romeo???? and Gasly to RB???

Renault do have the know-hall to build great engines and Ricciardo will be a great addition for the team. I just hope "they" Renault have the commitment. but I'm afraid pressure from the board and share holders will amount if the program don't produce results. They were the engine to have on the 80's and first manufacturer to introduce turbo to a F1 engine . I'd remember Mansell /Piquet epic battles and the JPS Lotus driven by Senna.

I think the end is near for Williams if they don't secure a strong financial sponsor. It would be a shame and a sad moment for F1! Force India has become Lance Stroll personal team his father Lawrence, just save the team from going the dinosaurs way. Lance is probably becoming a ForceIndia driver next year. question is what happens to Ocon he is a Mercedes driver and Sergio has some pretty good financial support (back to McLaren ??).

season will be fun to watch this year.

Isn't RB more likely to promote one of the Torro Rosso drivers? That's their usual MO anyway.

I hope for Riccardo this is a Hamilton to Mercedes kind of move and not an Alonso to McLaren move.

"normally" yes, Red Bull brings up the Toro Rosso top dog, but, Sainz is under a RB contract...so...who knows! Lots of possibilities, plus the talent piling up in F2 that probably deserves a shot. Maybe Leclerc goes to Haas if they aren't happy with Grosjean, and who knows how much influence the engine manufacturers have in moving Leclerc, Gasly, etc.

I've been surprised a lot by the recent F1 news. Although I was not really shocked by the Alonso announcement, Ferrari extending Raikkonen was a surprise.
