Driver Door lock actuator not working with FOB

I'm just posting this to document. I have 44,300 miles but the 4 years has kicked in already. I did purchase the extended warranty but am going to wait on the repair to see if other door locks give out. The deductible is $100 so I am fine just using the key for that door; for now. I wll post follow up if other doors start acting up.

Battery in fob is dead, or super low.

Hey Daddio! Thanks for the response. All the other locks and the tailgate open with the FOB. I change batteries every 3 months and have the extra FOB with me with just incase. If the battery were dead, I believe the key would not come out of the ignition (think I read that in the manual somewhere). The actuator was actually making that "humming" noise that usually signals it's about to malfunction or die out, based on my past experience with other vehicles. I'll change the battery again this weekend just to see.

FYI, I changed the battery as suggested and still the same.

You might check for broken wires in the loom going to the door, where it bends during opening/closing. Just like the hatch loom problems. I’ve had window and lock problems on a dodge due to broken wiring to the doors. An over charging condition or faulty ground can heat the wires, and they get brittle, as well as insulation cracking from winter use, where the wires then short out, overheat, and fray worse from embrittlement. Grab the bundle and manipulate it as you work the fob and if you get it to work during that, it may be the source of the problem. Also, Check for a large voltage drop between the battery and the actuator, and secure grounds.

Well as a follow up, the problem has become intermittent. This leads me to believe that StreetSurfer is correct. Seems to work when the temperature gets hotter like it is now, but inconsistent.

Here is a recent post by someone that encountered the hatch loom issue, to show the damage you want to look for....

    http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showt...l=1#post826683

It may also be ground faults and member @kellyinvirginia (if I have that right) has some good posts on cleaning up those, mainly below the battery tray, but there may be others like one on the core support for headlights (?) I think I read about. Not sure which all might have an effect on door functions. Best wishes in resolving this.

well, I see now I forgot this was for the L so some may apply or not like where the grounds reside.....my apologies.
