Mutalateahood !! Chop cut drill vent !!

Not big news but it gets HOT here in Phoenix. VERY. Anyways thought I'd play a bit with getting under hood temps down. My Supercharged Miata has real old school louvers pressed into the hood by a local Hot Rod good ol boy. I wanted something a little more modern than that for this first experiment. Got some O these. https://www.verus-engineering.com/fiat-abarth-products Bought a original Fiat hood fresh off the boat from Taiwan from ebay and went to work. Its in for paint right now. Hood will be body color ( Nero 2013 ) and vents same red as my side mirrors. Pics of the finished product once paint is done.

The half round pointy tubed bits were to go on the side of the hood near the rear / door most side also venting but I decided against it for now.

the vents looks pretty centered , can't believe you cut it using a dremel tool well done.

Thanks. I tried using a 4 1/2" angle but couldnt get the fine line accuracy I wanted. SO. Reinforced Dremel cutoff disks got the job done.

That looks really good. Nice job. I looked at the website where you got the vents at, and I think in Phx area you probably don't get much rain. But I wonder what they offer to deflect the water coming through the vents when it rains. Here on the coast and the guys down in Florida and such have to deal with a lot of rain at times.

No water diversion at all. Im not worried about it. I may fashion something to keep the ECU semi dry but; meh.

The "half pipes" were originally going to go on the side of the hood. Near where the hood angles up to the windshield. There is a flat spot on the inside of the hood I was going to cut away and vent the very rear of the compartment straight back out the tube. Keeping the tube nice and level. But test fitting it, I decided against it for now.

Well. The paint came out very good. Perfect match. The Tiawan hood however is POO. Not formed well, latch on nose too short and generaly a FSO. ( Fiat Shaped Object) Not close to FCA quality. If I were to do this over I would just use the stock hood but I also have more confidence about not junking my hood with a mis step now. Got It fitting fairly close and MAN do it dump the heat! With my E.C. V4 intake I had to angle the vanes on the drivers side but it still sheds heat like a mo fo. tried to get some under side shots to show how little support structure U have to cut if you lay it out carefully.
