Maybe you could place your recorder under the hood while you crank. That should isolate engine from cabin sounds. Sorry, I couldn't hear an abnormal whirring, but you hear one. Do you think that could be the fuel pump?

The only whir I'm hearing is the starter turning over as if the engine is nearly firing up; spinning quicker than normal. You might try turning on ignition and waiting for the lights to go out. Don't crank. Turn off the key and see if it fires right up. Just as a check, you aren't pressing on the accelerator pedal, are you?

Here is my latest update. My mechanic listened to the recording, and feels that the culprit is the cam sensor.

I agree, the sounds from inside the cabin like the starting chime overpowers the sound. I’ll try to get an under the hood recording soon. No, I am not pressing the throttle. Thanks MAP.

Try buckling the seat-belt and have the door closed before turning the ignition key. That should keep the buzzer from going off.

That's an interesting call. They can be tricky to diagnose. They can certainly cause some of the problems you are having. Here's hoping that's the culprit.
