The shop called and sounds like they're going full steam on it. They're loving the Midwest Bayless sight for parts it sounds like. Going with the black cloth top as apposed to the vinyl one. Better quality...and for an extra 200 bucks...what the heck. Sounds like the original mechanic that did the engine "rebuild" did a piss poor job on it, so they're completely rebuilding it...replacing all the rubber parts on the suspension, engine mounts...etc. Still, as cheap as we got it...we're still at way less then a fully restored automatic version of this..so still have a lot of wiggle room. Still shooting to have it back my the end of May so my wife and I can take it to Arkansas for Memorial day weekend. Except for some cosmetic issues...should basically have it like new (or as close as reasonably possible). Want to keep the paint "scheme" on it....though not original...we love the feel of it and it looks like a rally car sort of.
I'm getting the impression that the Automotive Technician/"Artist" and his team is taking a lot of personal pride in making sure this is done right. Not only because I explained to him I want my wife to be able to take it to work...but if she wants to go on a road trip...I don't want to worry about her breaking down, but because he use to service Spiders back when they were out in the 70's.
One thing I know I need to get is a licence plate frame. When my wife registered it...we got Vet tags and it says "71CAR" (not by choice...and they wouldn't go out of order no matter what). So I need a frame that says...at the top "NOT A" and at the bottom "IT'S A 1980". So much for the university of Margarittaville frame I wanted.
