My original mention of the I3 was simply that it would be a nice alternative to the model 3 if it had more range.

After that, another member began to somewhat bash 100% electric vehicles, likely not knowing he was in the 500e forum.

To end, my opinion is that if BMW got rid of the range extender and used the increased space for additional batteries it would bena viable alternative to Tesla in a suv type vehicle.

Well I should be the interesting use case. Just picked up a used 2016 500e with 500 mi in early March, and my other car I'm leasing is a 2017 BMW i3 Rex. Electric range is easily in the 140-160 mi range on the BMW, dropping around 30-40 mi in colder weather (here in the DC area so not too cold). Range I'm seeing on the 500e is between 70-100 mi depending on temperature.

The 500e replaced a 2016 Audi A3 e-tron PHEV we ended up turning back in under lemon law. It ends up that the 500e fulfills most of our local driving needs returning home with around 20-30% battery, although having started out in the EV world with a 33 kWh battery, the reduced range of the 500e's 22 kWh battery does leave me with a bit extra anxiety during colder weather.

    Reedog117,

When I got mine, we had a cold spell for a couple weeks. 62 mile RT commute with 30+ miles remaining in 33 degree weather driving responsibly 60/40 country roads/hwy.

Prices continue to rise. The cheapest one within 100 miles of DC is $11,200, with others knocking on $13,000. I could flip mine for $3,000 more than I paid for it after driving it for a year and 14,000 miles.
