    Formula 1 2018 Discussion SPOILERS

OK, we've got dates for most of the teams to reveal their cars, we know that the first 4 day testing in Spain will be in a few weeks...first race end of March...The Super Bowl is over, so I'm ready for some F1 2018 style!

The Halo, Grid Girls, and new logo have been in the news over the winter, and to be honest I'm not even interested so much in those topics compared to the racing!

Fernando Alonso has been in the news more than anyone, thanks to his drive at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Starting this Friday there is a new show on Amazon Prime that follows the McLaren F1 team from last year, so I'm hoping that this show will be fun to watch anyway. Hopefully there will be more than a steady bunch of Renault engines blowing up!

For 2018, maybe we'll have another battle of at least Mercedes and Ferrari, maybe even Red Bull can be in there too.

After that, I really think we have a good chance of an even tighter battle all the way down the field for these reasons:

Force India: After two years in a row finishing 4th, can they do it again? Will be tough, even tougher than moving up to 3rd.
Williams: A couple not so great years, they'll have youngsters Stroll and Sirotkin, but will the car be any good? I see them dropping some spots this year.
Renault: A full season of Sainz and Hulkenberg as the factory team is even more up to strength with facilities and people, I bet they surprise some people and fight for podiums!
Toro Rosso: Ooohhhh, stuck with Honda engines, I don't see how this can turn out well.
Haas: Finishing 8th in their first two seasons, with more points in 17 than 16 is going to be tough to improve given all the other teams that are likely to jump ahead. Another 8th would be pretty good this year I'd think.
Sauber/Alfa Romeo: They've been terrible for a couple years on old Ferrari engines, but the new deal brings them 2018 power units, so they have to move up this year, maybe all the way to 9th, but moving up!
McLaren: The big wild card. Alonso and Vandorn should be able to do a LOT better this year, just because they won't be on Honda power, but then combine the Renault engine with probably even better engines than last year, sure, there is a shot that they will fight for podiums too.

Anything possible at this point, but as always the prospect of a fight for the championship makes it all fun, and this year more than the last few years I think there will be just a titanic battle from 3-10 for the teams too.

I'm not sure about the halo, feels like it creates a blind spot but then what do I know?

Losing the grid girls is a travesty!!!

I'm hoping that McLaren can make it interesting and that Ferrari and Mercedes can make a real fight of it. It would be awesome to have 4 really competitive teams this year.

    Forza Ferrari!!!

I think Mclaren had one of the best chassis last year, very interested to see how they do this year. Don't sleep on the Honda power unit, it was getting better and that could be a sleeping giant. Prideful crew that does not enjoy being the laughing stock.

Ferrari is say that they are close to equaling Mercedes in thermal efficiency on the new power unit so that could be fun.

Either way hope it is fun!

I love F1, but until there is a bit more parody(maybe never) my first love will be IMSA and WEC.

Indy cars look good this year and I ma looking forward to seeing them at the ST Pete GP coming up.

Will I like the ESPN/ABC version of F1?

My daughter and I really enjoyed the Diffy/Hobbs/Matchett/Buxton combination.

Do we know anything about the ESPN/ABC broadcast team?

Agree 100% with you but if save lives I am all for it. I think it would have save Massa from his accident in 2009 and maybe Jules Bianchi too.

I've read so much opinionated trash talking on the halo (other forums) it's just maddening! I'm 100% in favor of more safety, so I think it's worth it.

Massa was hit by a spring I think, so lucky he wasn't hurt even worse, I can't imagine a chunk of metal hitting my head, even with the best helmet money can buy.

This week ESPN finally confirmed that we will get the British SKY broadcast team, so I think that will be a big win for the US! None of the NBCSN folks are likely to join them as far as I know.

Ferrari unveils their car next week, so far we know that their Renault engine has fired up, so already they are WAY ahead of the Honda at last year's firing up!

I watched the four episodes of Grand Prix Driver, and really enjoyed most of it, they showed a lot of pre-season behind the scenes stuff in the factory and with VanDorne prepping for the season, but there really wasn't any coverage of the actual racing season. If you're an F1 fan I think you'll like it.

Here some livery concept of what cars may look like. The lime green red bull livery looks amazing!

That's good to hear, I was concerned that ESPN/ABC would "Americanize" the place up (in my worst nightmare they act on the misconception that there's overlap between NASCAR and F1 fandom).
