Thought the dealer was trying to put one over on us yokels

thanks to all the posters here for the info on the GQ. i thought somebody was trying to slide a fake Abarth off the lot...

Abarth Cabrios aren't real plentiful in my part of OK. Abarths aren't very plentiful, for that matter. A couple weeks ago I found a new 17 coupe sitting on the
Fiat dealer's lot optioned as I would've ordered for myself. Manual, 16 inch wheels and no boy-racer stickers. Had to take it out for a test drive. What a blast! My Pop manual is fun to drive, but the sound and crispness of the Abarth, and the sound, and oh yeah-- the sound puts the Abarth heads and shoulders above my Pop. The sport mode actually dialed the steering assist back so I actually felt I was involved in the driving. Unfortunately the seat backs appeared to have been borrowed from the Spanish Inquisition. With my chin stuck in my chest, there was no way to get comfortable.

I spied something tonight advertised on a local Chevy dealer's used inventory as an Abarth Cabrio. 16 inch wheels? Check. Umm.. why do the center caps have the 500 logo? Abarth badge on the grill? Check. Dual exhaust? Check. Where's the scorpion on the side? Where's the scorpion on the rear hatch? Wait a minute-- the steering wheel's round? the pics on the site aren't crisp enough to make out the emblem on the side of the car, but clear enough to tell it wasn't a scorpion. And why no pictures of the engine compartment? Just struck me as fishy.

I really thought they dealer was trying to make an extra buck trying to slap an Abarth badge of the front of a 500C. I figured I would find "proof" of it if I searched a little bit through the forums. Thanks to you, I feel pretty safe that the car's a GQ model, the dealer just hasn't advertised it that way. Based on what I read here, it has the spunk of an Abarth with non-tortuous seats. Only thing missing is the sound? Think I'll head up there after work one of these days and check it out. Based on the green trees in the pic backgrounds and the 90 degrees showing on the thermometer in the interior shots, it's been around awhile, so i doubt it's going anywhere soon.

Thanks again to all those who post here. You folks are a great resource for the rest of us!

Somewhere along the line, you should be able to find the actual VIN and can get the skinny by searching that number. Also, what year is the used mystery 500? IIRC, the GQ was 2014?

Listed as a 2014. I emailed asking for more pics/info. All i got was a canned response wanting to know if I had a trade in. Repeated my questions and got a personalized response wanting to know if I had a trade in...The way it was worded made me picture the stereotypical old school used car salesman in a loud sport coat chomping on a slobbery see-gar... They could at least answer my questions and invite me to come take it for a drive before they start trying to twist my arm..

I'll try to get up and get it on the road. If they strike me as greasy in person as the first contact did, i can at least have some fun with them. Who knows? maybe it'll work to my advantage.

Drives petty slick! More torque steer than my Pop. Quieter on the road, better road feel, shifter feels less sloppy. Seats aren’t the torturous ones from the Abarth. Difference between Sport mode and normal more pronounced than on my Pop. Doesn’t have quite the bark of the other Abarths, but it’s close.

dealership seems sleazier than expected these days, but with only 30K on the odometer, there’s still some factory warranty left. I’ll get it to my mechanic on Monday and have him give it a once over.

Bummer. Couldn’t make a deal. They were at 12,500 and only wanted to give me 3K for my 2013. Guess i’ll Keep looking. I liked the seats so much better than the torture devices in the Abarth.
