never too old .... or infirm!

I saw an elderly man as I was leaving the market yesterday. He was riding on one of those scooters for the elderly. He had a basket on the back with his groceries in it, and the box boy was helping him to his car ..... which jut happened to be an Abarth. It was in very nice condition, actually looked new. This man got out his scooter thing and was hobbling to get into his car. He was struggling. I spoke to him, telling him I had the same car as him. He asked Abarth? I said yes. He sort of lit up at that point. He grumbled something about the suspension needed to be improved and then he mentioned his Porsche from the 60's. Amazing thing was his car, a 2013, only had 4000 miles on it. He said he drives it 1000 miles a year! And here my 2015 only has 6700 on her! I waited until he started it up before I left!

edit: the title was supposed to say 'infirmed'

    Nice story, (changed the title)

Only a thousand miles a year, should be in great shape then!

That is awesome. I always respect folks who never let their age prevent them from their passions.

I get odd looks at times. I'm 51 and sportin' handicap plates whilst cranking Ozzy's Boneyard.

Being an old guy myself, 69 years, I enjoy these age related postings. Love the original story about the aged Abarth owner. I can see myself in that story in the coming years.

I encourage more postings from older FIAT drivers. Maybe we can turn this into the “Old Guy” thread similar to the 100,000 mile topic.

I turn 56 later this month. Love my Abarth cabrio. Lots of reasons, but the one that's germane here is ease of access and exit. I haven't driven the 124 Abarth, but I've gotten into and out of its cousin Miata. Can I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it several times a day. No. I kept my mustang convertible 10 years. Before that I had a Saab convertible for 8 years. I plan on driving my Fiat when I'm 64 (insert Beatles song...). And it will still be easy to get in an out of even then. Seats sit high and they are comfortable for 12 hour drives.
