    August autocross video

Today was the monthly autocross with the local SCCA region at Pungo (Virginia Beach) Virginia. After 5 runs one of the other drivers told me I was up on 2 wheels again, but not by much, so now I'm really looking forward to putting the Koni Sports on the car and see if that settles things down. No other Italians today, no other cars in H Street class, so yay for me! Mostly I had fun going faster on each run, and meeting some new drivers today. One guy is from Albany NY, in town for some military training so he came out to autocross! Also saw one of the Marines from where I just retired, he'd never been out autocrossing in the past 2.5 years I've lived here, so it was good to see him too. At the local Cars and Coffee the day before I'd run into a guy who was asking all about the Abarth, said he used to autocross and was looking to start again. Even if I'm not the fastest driver (and I'm not even close), it's a really fun hobby and always ends up being fun with plenty of other car folks. We'll get the official results in a few days, I'm likely mid pack or hopefully better on PAX time, and winning the HS class for the year. Here's my fastest run, you can see how small this area is for autocross, so it usually ends up being a variation on this basic figure eight with sweepers on the two ends.

Yeah I tend to start yelling at myself before the finish, trying to go faster. It probably doesn't help but it's fun!

So the results are on line, I ended up 31st on RAW time out of 39, and 19th on PAX out of 39, so smack dab in the middle!

Not to complain, but compared to the other club in the area, this one tends to run smaller groups and more of them seem to be fast too! Of course most people are faster than me, but it's still fun!

Nice work! It's always a bit tougher with a smaller field, midpack works for me any day!

Nice run. What a confusing-looking course, though. I know it's a pain trying to make courses on small venues, but I'm always nervous I'm going to miss the forest for the trees (cones). I just noticed in your signature that you're running RE71s on 17" wheels. For some reason I couldn't find any to fit my stock 17" wheels so I bought a set of 16" Sparcos a few years ago so that I could actually USE RE71s. Either I totally missed something (likely) or they only started making the 17" versions. OR you have wider tires and I was too chicken to see if they rubbed

Right, I think they are 215. AutoX wise it's probably a bit better to go 16 inch, maybe a national champ level driver can tell the difference. I'm still working on it.

I don't yell, but I DID start slanting my magnetic numbers forward. I think that helps give me more downforce.
