My 2013 owner's manual says under the section on towing:

"Trailer towing with this vehicle is not allowed."
2013 Fiat 500 Sport AT, Xpel Ultimate Clear Bra, 3M Crystalline Window Tint, Black top stripes, Black "500" (wide) side stripes. Fiat "500" Stainless door sills by Mopar. BlueTooth music streaming. OBDII BlueTooth Torque gauges streaming to smart phone. BF Goodrich Sport Comp II tires, STS rear sway bar, Euro+Drive NA 500 Tune, BMC reusable air filter and Spare Tyre with cover.

Blast to drive! 25 years newer than last car!

Tongue weight is key here. From researching this before, it was suggested that tongue weight should not exceed 50-75lbs, which would put a 5x8 trailer in question. Trailer weight also should not exceed about 1000 lbs. Do they rent 4x6?? I think you could safely tow this, especially with the turbo. The 5x8 is too wide and would create a lot of drag, let alone the weight issue. The 500 IS rated to tow in Europe, which means the car's structure and engine/transmission can handle it. I personally know the person who towed a teardrop camper from Florida to the Dragon in Tennessee with a nonturbo. He said it did fine. He just kept it in 4th gear at 60 mph so as not to put too much strain on the motor/tranny. The only issue was handling became sketchy in tight switchbacks in the mountains and you had to be careful braking. No sudden stops! Other then that, he was impressed with how well it handled it.

If you are taking I10, most of that is flat to Las Vegas, so I would think you can do it...gently and with nothing larger then a 4x6.

I towed a jet ski for two years with an abarth.

Probably 50+ times pulling a wet ski out of the water, on a steep incline... Lots of highway driving too.

I also towed a large enclosed uhaul trailer for two hours....

Makes sense, but it's really put in there for their warranty protection. I'll bet these are towing trailers and things all over Europe.

They are and the Euro 500's are about 500 pounds lighter.
