    500E service outside Oregon/California?

I leased my 500E in Oregon, but have relocated to Virginia. Local service center is not authorized to service the car. I contacted FCA and they say it's my responsibility to get the car back to Oregon or California to get it serviced.

I'd very much appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

Maybe some other electrical vehicle makers can work on it.

I'd thought of that. The car as 0 problems now, but is due a scheduled service. Since it's on a lease, I wonder if Chrysler Capital (leaseholder) would be ok with someone else working on it?. I'll contact them.
    thx!

There is a law that you do not void a car warranty if a non-dealer works on it. Just document that the service was done.

That law makes sense. Let's hope I don't need to find someone else to work on it. Anyone here in the DC area with a 500E?

I live in AZ and just bought a 500e that came off of a lease out of CA...The carfax on the vehicle showed that the previous owner never took care of 3 recalls on the vehicle....so I setup an appt to get it serviced at a local Fiat dealership - they called me the day before my appt and told me that they didn't realize it was the 500e and that they dont have the equipment to service the vehicle - Grrrr!! They directed me to call FCA...

I called FCA and they were very helpful in locating a dealership across town...And its not only having the equipment, but also a getting a certified technician...FCA was willing to fly out a technician from CA to AZ to get the recalls done - I guess its a liability thing...Luckily, it was just software upgrades and not any hardware changes - so no tech needed...

You should call around to different dealerships in your state...if none can service the vehicle, then check neighboring states...I am hearing more and more dealerships across the country are ramping up for these EV's as they start coming off of leases and sell across the country...

But you might be in a tight spot with the lease per se -- i've been in leases where they don't allow the vehicle to be taken out of state (whether EV or not)...So i am not sure what's going to happen there - Worst case, just buy the car, its a great little EV : )

    Good Luck!!

Thanks a ton hjz911! - I guess the FCA person I spoke to was just clueless (it was a Saturday...). He couldn't even look up dealers that were authorized to service the E. I'll call again, and hopefully get better luck. I also just received a recall on the car, so that might be interesting - as you said, they likely have more responsibility there.

I purchased a 500e from a dealer in FL that picks them up in TX and CA. I live in NH and before I purchased the 500e I called my local Chrysler dealer. Somebody (wish I had asked for their name) said in early Feb that they have all the equipment and would be trained shortly to service them. I setup an inspection for the vehicle a few days ago and the dealer said they were not yet certified, and would likely take "months or more" because FCA is focusing certificaiton resources on dealers that are selling them new. Imagine my surprise (and disappointment). I'd like to have it checked out so I'll call FCA to find out if someone nearby can service it

BTW I found the same dealer that cannot service my 500e now has a new/used one for sale. Although given their asking price it may sit there awhile. Go figure...

    Hey Joe,

I'm in Springfield, VA and picked up a 500e from Pennsylvania last weekend. Mine has a CPO warranty through Fiat (they call it certified pre-driven) and I was able to have the selling dealer perform the inverter recall (just a flash over the diagnostic port) at the instruction of Fiat USA. Our local dealers weren't much help although the one in Tysons did say that they had to fly a technician out to perform a recall on a 500e a while back. I think if enough of us pressure one of the local dealers to do our service, they may entertain the idea of having one of their technicians EV certified. I suspect the only real thing required is high voltage training, as most of the car is the same as a gas 500 and all of the service literature is readily available.

If you'd like to meet up sometime and compare 500es, send me a message.

There are a number of off lease type of dealerships selling the Fiat 500e here in South Florida. Before I purchased mine I confirmed that both the Fiat dealership in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Arrigo Fiat, could service them. They successfully completed the recall work on my 2015 Fiat 500e.
