Just leased a 2017 500e

New member here! I previously leased a Volt and now have the 2017 500e. I seriously considered buying a used 2013 for $6500 but ended up leasing for $107/mo + 3500 down (1000 down after the 2500 rebate). My monthly was going to be $87/mo but I added on the excess wear & tear package which in hindsight I shouldn't have done.

I love this car though and am hoping when my lease is up in 3 years that I can pick up a used 2017 for under $7k!

We're loving our 500e, leased it a few weeks ago. It's a change, that's for sure, but we love how it drives, the pick-up it gets, and not having to go to the gas station anymore! Well, far less often as we still have a truck. But I'm glad we did this, knock wood!

My wife and I considered leasing a new one but I'm glad we bought a used one instead. She's projected to drive it 22K miles a year which would be far too expensive to lease. Our insurance is also about $600 less per year for the same coverage. However, I enjoy the interior on the newer 500e…perhaps we'll get one later.

Used 500es are available here on the east coast now. I picked one up in Pennsylvania two days ago for $8000. 2013 with 9,600 miles and a CPO warranty. I actually expect prices to increase around here once people figure out how great these little cars are.

Yeah, two decades of diesel ownership has turned me into a torque addict. EVs play into that, but go one step further because of the single speed reduction gear (no annoying transmission shifting). The driving dynamics are fantastic and the instant torque is great around town.

I've still got my 17 year old Golf TDI with a 12% taller than OEM 5th gear and I recently inherited an 06 Chevy Silverado Duramax diesel with the Allison 6-speed auto transmission. We use the TDI for trips no shorter than 10 miles, and the 500e is a great car for 90% of our driving. I'm with you on the love for torque and for as efficient as my old 5-speed was, the direct drive on an EV just cannot be beaten.
