    Battery degradation? Diagnostic modes?

Is there any diagnostic modes to tell how much of a charge the battery is holding?

My 3 year old goes from 100% to 96% over the course of 1/2 mile or less. Then it will seem to lose at a much more reasonable rate. Part of me is wondering if this is the 500e's way of telling me my battery just isn't holding a full charge anymore. If its still under warranty, should I bring this in and have it looked at?

Bumping this one up. WOuld like to know if others have insight/guidance here.
Jlassen: Can't the dealer run diagnostics on the battery. Not sure they'd be open with their results but worth a shot.

Sounds about right to me. I THINK I see very little regen during the first 2-3 miles in the morning, even under moderate braking. My theory is that the car is heating the battery and therefore using the battery. After 2-3 miles (winter) the battery is up to temperature and the percentage charge stabilize.

After doing some searching I found a diagnostic tool called FiCOM that actually supports bcm and the electric vehicle control unit diagnostics as well as coding of both.

    Is it this one??? http://www.obdtester.com/ficom

If yes looks very capable although a little spendy...
I have a bluetooth OBD II connector and software for my Android phone and have used it with other vehicles but haven't tried using it on the 500e.
Wonder how much EV info can be obtained from that?

Yes that's the one. It is comparable cost to vag-com for VWAG which also supports long coding and datalogging. The FiCOM is much more in depth than the cheaper code readers on the market.

Ill be ordering the FiCOM soon and ill be playing with it to see what can actually be done. Since they allow coding of the BMS and the EV Control Unit there is a potential for tweaking the SoC to gain a few more miles of range or the possibility of more power.

    WARNING: Don't do it!

The 500e does not have an ODB2 port although it uses the same type of connector. The 500e runs a proprietary interface and if you plug an OBD device into it, it will interpret the signals wrong and could potentially damage the car.

I don't think FICOM will work. The 500e is not on their supported list:

This diagnostic is known to work: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EleTruk...k4aGVSm?cfem=1

FiCOM does support the 500e. Click Fiat 500 2007- and look at the supported powertrain systems. First 4 on that list are specific to the 500e only.

sigh. Looks like I'll be adding another dongle to collection. So far I have a Ross-Tech VCDS for my 01 VW Golf TDI and a bootlegged copy of TechStream for my wife's 07 Lexus Rx400h. Both are required in order to flush the brake fluid, among other maintenance tasks.
