I agree it must have been a bad batch. After the replacement all is good in this matter.

I had the same cold idle rumble return after they loaded the PCM and TCM update. Initially blaming the rough cold idle on the software, I then decided to add a 12oz bottle of Techron to a full tank on next fill-up. After using 3/4 tank the rough cold idle is gone. Looks like I had a partially clogged injector. Worth giving it a try.

i'm amazed seeing a thermostat go bad in such a short time. Definitely had to be a bad batch.

Well, add another faulty thermostat to this list. My 16 500x displayed all of the symptoms described in this thread. Took it to the dealer today and they confirmed it was a faulty thermostat and gave me a loaner. Luckily, I'm still under warranty but I'm getting concerned about this car.

41,500 miles on my '16 and P0128 "Drive Mode Unavailable" popped up for me too. I take it to the dealer with no appointment hoping for someone to at least look at the car but NO I was turned away and was told to call and make an appointment. So I call them and the earliest schedule time is 3.5 weeks!!! I don't know if anyone else has issues with their Stealership like I do but this is ridiculous 3.5 weeks to even get the car in to be looked at?? The sad part is this is the only Dealer close to me. The next closest is over 1h45m drive. IS this ok to drive on for that long of a period of time? I am concerned about me breaking down on my way to work and loosing a days pay because of this issue.

Well, assuming the problem you experience is same - meaning thermostat failure.
Is it a problem - no. Not really. Especially in Florida.
Just the ECU detects that engine is not reaching operating temp quickly enough, or at all.
The only downside is slightly increased fuel consumption. Unless it is a long term - that is months...

I get that You read the code yourself, right?

Can you monitor the engine temp? In F or C... in C - it should reach 85 C and then start going up/down, that means up to 95 or more (after a while) down to 84, 82...

Also, please check the coolant level. My car "drinks" coolant. It is unknown why, but coolant level slowly drops. No leaks are visible. Just in case.

Yeah I noticed that my coolant level was slightly low and topped it off the other day. Haven't monitored the temp besides the dummy gauge ant that does not move past half after the car is warmed up. I did notice that when this code popped up it was a pretty cold that morning even for here in SW Florida. Hope it gets fixed next week when I bring it in to the Setalership.

Thanks to this thread, I was already well aware of this code and what it means when it popped up on my roomies 2015 Jeep Cherokee with the same 2.4 Tigershark engine. His failed at 62k. The thermostat must be stuck open as the temp gauge never gets to the center. Has anyone had to replace one outside of warranty and can share how much it cost to replace?

Mine popped up on my 2016 at just under 30,000. Dealership looked at it same day and cleared the code to see if it was due to the extreme cold that day...and to make sure it wasnt anything other than PO128 since I had a long drive the next day. Message popped up the next morning. Brought it back in yesterday and they switched out the thermostat and did a few updates...and inspection/emissions.
