I have had my 17" abarth wheels on for about 5 days. On my daily commute I have seen a drop from 4.5-5.0 mi/kwh to 3.8-4.0 mi/kwh. I expected a little drop but 20+% is nuts. I am back to the drawing board and likely going to lightweight 15's.

Have anyone else with 17's seen that crazy of a drop in range?
Yes, I am experiencing about the same thing with mine. In cooler weather I have noticed that my charge indicator will only show 85-90 miles on range, but that would have to be very conservative driving. Last summer and even late into the fall, my charge would show as high as 119-121 miles of range on the full charge. I know that's not realistic, but I would actually get close to 100 miles out of very easy driving around town and some of the bypass roads. I was averaging around 45 MPH with those figures.

The combo I have now is 17x7" TSW Mallory rims with Michelin A/S touring tires size 205 45R17. They stand 24.3" tall versus the stock Firestone tires on 15" rims at 23.0". The Firestone tires are 7.3" wide, and mine are 8.1". The revolutions per mile are Firestone 877, Michelin 832. That equates to a speed adjustment of 5.7% on the odometer/speedometer. I think the extra width and taller overall combo is really doing a number to my mileage. The advantages are good...great grip, beautiful handling, very quiet, and more fun sprinting around town!

When I made the first long run with these wheels and tires I could tell the KW usage almost immediately. I completed a 70 mile round-trip averaging about 58 MPH, and arrived at home with 1% (ONE-PERCENT) showing on the mileage remaining, and 2% on the charge indicator. I did about 7 miles of that trip at 45-47 MPH, and the rest at 58 allowing for the +5.7% speedometer correction with the larger tires. I used the cruise control almost the entire trip.

I could go to a 195 40R17 tire and the height would be 23.1" (only one-tenth inch taller) versus the stock 23". The width would be 7.7" versus stock 7.3". That's only a +0.4% change to the speedometer. That might make a world of difference over what I'm running now. The problem with that size is very limited choices of tires (that I want). What do you guys think? Tell me what you would do.

Im going to bump the pressure up a few psi and drive a few more days with this setup. If its still this bad I am pulling them off and simply going back to 15" light wheels.

My work commute is 40 miles one way and I typically consume 45% heading to work and 50-55% heading home. Ill gauge the rest of the week and see how it goes
So, what range did you actually have before and after the change? I'm going through the same situation now also.

PS. I posted this a little earlier, but did not use the quotes.

Hey Marcel, waar heb je die gekocht en wat was de prijs ongeveer? Ik rijd nu op ori velgen met winterbanden en het wordt langzamerhand tijd te wisselen.

I was asked once, knowing what I know now about my inlaws, if I would do it all over again. I said "no, I would have married an orphan."
