    2013 Abarth stereo build underway

So I haven't built a stereo system in 15 years and it seems many things have changed. If any of you have tips/tricks to make this process less painful, please share! Jensen VX7022 double DIN GPS head unit, with old school Soundstream reference 705 - 5 channel amp, JL Audio 10-TW1-2 subwoofer, Polk Audio DB6501 component set for the front, and Polk Audio DB651 2- way speakers for the rear. Currently the car is tore apart waiting on a new wiring harness after finding that the first one I ordered didn't have a 12v switched power, and several of the wires didn't match the proper location for the factory harness. Ordered up the RAP harness with steering wheel controls as indicated on another thread within the forum. Also have the wiring kit, Double Din adapter, backup camera, baffles, etc. and will be building a custom fiberglass enclosure for the 10" sub in the trunk. Again, if any of you have been through this and have any input, please let me know... More to come as parts arrive.

During your installation, did you figure out where the stock crossovers are for the front speakers? I tend to prefer the sound of 2 way speakers over components and would like to put 2 ways in the doors and either disconnect or leave the front stock tweeters. Is this possible and how would I do it?

I didn't come across any crossovers, I ran new wires to all the speakers and just left the factory wiring in place. Keep in mind that the high frequencies that the tweeters provide are more directional and don't travel through items like driver/passenger legs. That's typically why they are located up high and pointed at the driver. I'm not sure if the factory setup uses passive crossovers, or if the channels are crossed over at the amp.

So excited that I found this thread. I just bought 2013 as well. I can't wait to see what you have regarding installing a double din. One quick question does it eliminate the center vents?

The new dash insert allows you to keep some center ventilation, but there is no going back to stock. You have to cut out 2/3 of the vents and insert the included paddles to divert the airflow to the new, smaller vents on either side of the head unit. More to come when I get it installed. Just got the correct wiring harness and got it soldered up. Will install it next week when I'm off work.

Got the head unit and the amp all hooked up and everything working, rear camera, steering wheel controls, and all speakers. Realized that the color of the head unit adapter is nowhere near a match to anything in the car. Very disappointed in the install kit from Spiral Audio. Also started the subwoofer enclosure tonight, forgot what a pain in the butt fiberglass is.

See what you mean but the head unit still looks sweet. Just not sure I could pull that off!
