    SIAP - manual transmission Clutch Delay Valve (CDV)

    curious if anyone knows.... does the 1.4T engine with C635 manual transmission have a clutch delay valve? If yes, the CDV would be located on the hose that goes from the clutch pedal to the bleed fitting at the trans. it could also be possible to find the CDV built into the clutch pedal assembly.

    why am i asking? the dart with same 1.4T and same C635 manual trans does in fact have a CDV built in. the X engine bay is really small and i have to wait until i have time to remove front bumper cover to see anything.

    what is a CDV? (credit dodge-dart.org and Deyeme Racing) The concept of a CDV is to help newbie drivers not "drop the clutch" or do anything else too suddenly that could damage the transmission. The way this is done is with a damper canister (the clutch delay valve), and clutch tubing with numerous coils and an oversized inner diameter to further "cushion" and "delay" the action from your foot to the clutch release bearing. In reality, this delay causes premature clutch wear (the only time the clutch is wearing is when it's partially engaged / disengaged, which the CDV extends every time you push and release the pedal). The delay also makes it impossible to shift gears at high speed, because even if your foot has hit the floor, the bearing is still working to release the clutch- then when you start bringing your foot back up, the clutch was never REALLY all the way down, and you get blocked from going into the next gear. As someone who loves spirited driving, and has years of experience driving cable and hydraulic clutch setups on the street and track, this shift delay is one of the most aggravating things for a daily driver.


    if the CDV is found to be present and deleted, the feeling that you get once the CDV is gone is amazing! CDV delete has been proven successful by the dart community, VW, BMW.... The CDV delete is a solution to a squishy clutch pedal, jerky launches, and difficult quick shifting. No more waiting for the clutch to release completely when you want to take off from the line! No more sloppy shifts! You will have complete control over you transmission like you are supposed to have with a manual trans!

    Well, if it does have such a valve, it certainly doesn't affect the ability for me to drop the clutch and shred tires.

    This is a very popular mod on MT Elantras from the mid-2000s. There was a DIY showing out to remove the damper orifice to provide better clutch feel (my Elantra was automatic).

    Yes, there is a damper listed inline with the supply line going to the slave cylinder.

    It was a must in Elantra XD (mine was 2004). In HD (another I had was 2009) did not really need this mod. Clutch was very good, well comparing to XD.
    Then, Forte5 SX - it was very brisk. The damper was either very quick, or allowed for almost anything.

    interesting, could you kindly post a schematic(s) and any kind of removal/replacement instructions if one had to do work in this area and/or replace supply line ;-)

    There isn't really much about it. It is at the end of the clutch hydraulic hose. The hose screws into it. I believe there is a body clip that holds the clutch hydraulic line that you need to remove.
