    Anyone upgraded their headlights?

I find that my headlights are not as bright as I need, I drive through lots of dark roads. Anyone upgraded their lights to brighter ones? Would also like to know if there is any upgrade to the foglights and DRL lights

    1) Halogen - the 500X uses a 9012 halogen bulb. At 1850 lumens there is no brighter bulb in halogen. Any of the tinted bulbs will only lower the output.

    2) HID - There are many 9012 based kits available. As long as you use a 9012 (bulb base) kit it should fit. I wont get into the pros and cons of kits except to say quality and reliability varies. I went thru two kits and after problems put them on the shelf.

    3) LED - I tried about three LED kits and liked the R3 9600 lm kit the best and am using it now. It is pure white with no blue at all and easy to install and very bright with a good ECE pattern. Not quite as bright as HID but the brightest LED kit I've seen. There is no room on the passenger side due to airbox so the braided heatsink works well.

    4) DRL - Bulb type is 1156. LED or halogen your choice. I've been using the PIAA Extreme white for months and was happy. Yesterday I tried an LED set from Ebay:

    PIAA Extreme white

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIAA-High-Pe...3D261971568610

    1156 LED

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-1156-BA15...dVqaZT&vxp=mtr

The 1156 LED had a very good output but had other characteristics that bothered me...it stayed glowing after it was supposed to be off. The fix requires a resistor that I don't want to bother with. It would not drop in output when the low beams are on like the halogen bulb. It was just a bit too blue for my tastes. I like pure white in front of the car.

So I went back to the PIAA halogen bulbs for now in the DRL. They will not give you more light output but they do look white at full voltage and some what white at reduced voltage (low beams on).

Note: If you ever drop a bulb into the DRL housing don't panic...use this

Thanks for all the info, have you had any issues with that LED kit you posted? Also would I need anything else aside from that kit?

Is there an hid kit for the foglights as well or a whiter bulb that will match the headlight led?

    1) An opening needs to be made in the rear cover of the headlight so the braided heatsink can be bought thru. Nothing else is needed for install. All components fit inside the headlight and connect to the factory plug. No problems otherwise.

    2) There are other halogen choices like Sylvania Silverstar that are pretty good.

    3) I don't have the fog lights but I will mention that they are also cornering lights. So this means they are on for a few seconds at a time. This type of duty cycle does not lend well to HID as the ballasts do not like to be turned on and off rapidly, eventually causing failure. I would stick to LED or improved halogen for the fogs.

As for me, I have upgraded to the following:

All may be found at Amazon

    1. Headlight - BPS Lighting B2 Led Headlight Bulbs Kit w/Clear Arc Beam 100w 16,000 lumen 6,000k - 6,500k White CSP Led (9012/HIR2) [This bulbs have a built-in heat-sink and Canbus error chip, so you don't need to modify anything. Pretty much plug-n-play. However, when I contacted customer support about the brightness, they recommended me to try out the G8 (it costs $50 more, which equals to approx. $99) LED headlight since it has adjustable beams.]

It's not the brightest compared with HID, but looks better than stock bulb.

    2. DRL and front turn signal - JDM Astar 960 lumens super bright 5730 chipsets 7507 1156PY BAU15S LED bulbs with projector (Xenon White) [I used this for DRL and doesn't need line load resistor]

JDM Astar Super Bright 5730-chipsets 7507 1156PY BAU15S LED bulbs with projector (Amber Yellow) [I used this for the turn signal], you will need to tap in line load resistor to prevent Canbus error and hyper flash

    3. Foglights - JDM Astar extremely bright 3030 chipsets H11/H8 LED bulbs for DRL or Fog lights (Xenon White) [This is one I'm very happy with. Bright and white, but they do have a really dim after-glow when you turned off your car. It doesn't have any effect on battery or car startup for these past few months, so I assume it's ok]

So, there, I hope this helps. I would like to know if any have tried something that's much improved and/or better.

I use the JDM Astar 3030 chipset in my reverse lights. Man are they bright! In order to stop the after glow install a 10K or 20K resistor across the LED bulb socket like so on my reverse light:

Wow, is that multi-colored thingy a resistor you soldered on yourself? That looks clean and awesome.
