Finally can get rid of Uconnect and upgrade to any headunit of your choice???

Hey guys! I found this on YouTube. Wondering if anyone in the USA have tried this adapter that allows you to upgrade to almost any headunits while retaining Uconnect OEM settings through a custom menu.

Upon further research I came upon a US-based company that sells an interface module (flash upgradeable) that allows us to replace our OEM Uconnect headunit with select aftermarket GPS navigation headunits. It will retain most of the settings and features as present on the Uconnect 5.0 or 6.5, plus a few more nifty features such as different menu displays, various engine/vehicle sensors info, etc.

Replacing the head unit is likely the only way the 500x is going to get Apple Carplay or Andriod Auto. I am curious as to what would get lost replacing the head unit.

i want apple car play too, and it sounds like you lose everything - steering wheel controls, USB port, bluetooth, backup cam... i am still researching but its not going well

Its hard to find kits for connecting a double din radio. Bluetooth likely doesn't matter, a stereo should provide that connectivity. I did find some kits that seem to provide steering wheel controls, but less info on USB/backup cam.

It looks like you can get kits for all but USB/Bluetooth (Radio should have bluetooth anyway)

It's kinda expensive to upgrade if you want to keep all functionality intact. I guess it could cost at least $900+

That sucks. So have to install another backup camera if you really need it then. Maybe will be a fix or hack around it? In the future maybe?

yep, a future hack or fix would be nice. i dont care so much about the added expense of an aftermarket backup camera, because most places give you a backup camera free with the radio, but i wont mount the new camera anywhere else but the current OEM location. i want to keep the nice clean look in place so it becomes a question of finding a camera that will fit where the OEM one sits.

just my 2 cents, but this car has way too many blind spots to be backing up without a camera. its a must have.
