    Angry Drive Mode Unavailable

It does surge when first started but that clears pretty quickly. Should I use my OBD2 scan tool to reset it?
Same thing here at about the same mileage -- 26K. Just had it in for oil change a week or two ago -they never reset the oil change light (which wasn't coming on before oil change - though low oil pressure light WAS coming on -- now low oil pressure light is off, but oil change light is on!). Then just this morning, a warning popped up that said "Service Engine - Drive Mode Unavailable". I had the sun roof open as I was driving and I kept thinking I was smelling a hot or burning smell, but couldn't be sure. I popped the hood when I got home and didn't smell anything obvious.

Have also had other similar things happen as the other people in this thread -- my engine shuts off for no apparent reason while driving. Quite scary! Took it in to Fiat and they gave me the same lame excuse -- it just needed some updates! To me that is just unacceptable -- what if I had been going 70mph on the interstate and this happened!? I asked them that exact question at Fiat and they just shrugged their shoulders. I didn't know about reporting to NHTSA till reading this -- will most definitely report as this is a SERIOUS safety issue! After the "update" that they performed about 8 months ago -- all seemed fine until about a month ago. Car stalled as I was driving -- seemed to happen only when I was going over a speed bump or a rough road. That was NOT the case the first time -- first time I was on a smooth, flat road.

So now I have multiple issues to take up with the Fiat dealer that is about an hours drive from my house. Which BTW, it took them 3 days to "update" the car last time. Really disappointing as I love this car otherwise.

    1) low oil pressure light indicates the oil level was low. Never let the oil level go low on an engine with a multiair valvetrain. The engine will stop when the oil pressure drops below a certain level. Low oil pressure light was off after the oil change because the oil was set to the proper level.

    2) To reset oil change message go to ACC (engine off) put the accelerator pedal to the floor three times in succession.

    3) Your now getting "drive mode unavailable" because you have a stored failure code that can be read on a code reader.

    I have a brand new Fiat 2017 500X with 7283 Miles.

While driving this morning my car cut off!

The service engine light came on the things began flashing and the drive mode was unavailable. Thank God I was on a residential street. I would normally have been on the Tollway by this time. I called Fiat and was sent to the wrong roadside assistance line which was insult to injury.

I have no words to to describe what I feel right now or how scared I was this morning.

There are no recalls on my vehicle, so I guess it’s just sit and wait.

Even the dealer I purchased from was like “Yeah, anyone can help you. It’s under warranty.” Well, I am not.

I came across this site while waiting for the service rep to help. The car has been towed and I thought best to share since there is no record of issues.
