    Thanks so much for the advice and reply. Actually from June through October the car gets driven 200 miles round trip every week. I now realize that the title of the thread says less than 30,000 it should say less than 60,000 miles. Because I live in New York the car does go on shorter trips everyday, but there are my long trips as well.

    A battery is in a constant state of being discharged while siting, so it doesn't matter much if the car is driven frequently for the five months during June-October. What matters is how much it is being used right now. A car is meant to be driven daily long enough to charge the battery and to fully warm up to operating temperature., which takes somewhere around 15-20 miles at one time. Absent that, the car is operating under what is considered severe duty, especially if it operated at low speed in traffic (which is hard on the charging system among other things). That means more frequent maintenance and checks, and things like a battery or engine oil would need to be replaced sooner than if the car was operated regularly. New York City is rough on a car and people, too.
