    Coolant - CONFUSED

    OK, I have a 2012 Abarth.

The tank has a sticker that says to use MS12106 coolant. This is an OAT coolant.

In 2012, the coolant was orangish. I know the switched in 2013 to a purple coolant.

BUT, when I look up the coolant on Fiat Parts Wbestore, the part number they come up with (68104496AA) says it is an MS-9769 coolant.

I have done some searches and come up with various part numbers, and they all come up as MS-9769 coolants.

Although Prestone has a coolant that they say meets MS12106 specs.

So what is the right coolant??????????????????

Here's a link to some good information from SAE, Short answer is the orange coolant in your 2013 is not to be mixed with any other OAT coolant, it was a special blend.....

The best thing to do is go to a dealer and let them get the correct antifreeze. The few $$ you save on the Prestone isn't worth the hassle in my book. I just got done double checking with a Chrysler training video and the Pink Fiat OAT anti-freeze used in 2012 is compatible with the regular MOPAR purple OAT used in 2013 plus cars. It is just the dye. The training specifically says don't use another manufacturer's OAT coolant, and don't use an "All Makes" coolant unless it says it specifically meets Chrysler specs. Because there is some confusion on the specs, I'd pass on the Prestone and check out the dealer. Maybe at some point they'll discontinue the Fiat Pink OAT and just hand out the Purple.

Note: Don't confuse the special Fiat pink OAT with the previous pink Chrysler HOAT anti-freeze.

    That is what is confusing.

    Tank says MS-12106.

All the part numbers come up with descriptions saying MS-9769. MS-9769 is the same standard as used in our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Second hitting up the parts desk at your local Chrysler shop. They have the parts exchange system on their computers and will make sure you get the right stuff. Even if they don't sell FIATs the exchange data is in the MOPAR system so if you call and ask what kind of coolant you need they should be able to get it to you. My local MOPAR parts desk are very user friendly.

I noticed the coolant level was at min and just stop by my local studio to see if they could top it off.
They actually opened a brand new bottle and topped it off for me free of charge.
Great service experience at Safford Fiat of Tysons Corner.

It is confusing, but the MS-12106 is the correct standard.

Here are the part numbers out of the Mopar Vehicle Lubricant and Chemical Catalog dated 2014:
68148834AA 50/50 mix, 68148838AA for concentrate in 3.785 liter sizes. In previous years, part numbers 68104494AA for 50/50 and 68104496AA for concentrate were listed. They don't mention it, but it seems safe to say that antifreeze would be pink, which is what 2012 cars came with. 2013 cars have the purple MS-12106 and uses a different part number - 68175339AA for 50/50, and 68175338AA for concentrate. Check with the dealer to be sure, but that's what I get from the catalog.

I've just received a gallon of this from Amazon. It's most definitely "12106". Noted on the front and back.

My '13 had pink in the tank & this product is pink, too.

Odd - My 2013 came with purple coolant from the factory, and when I bought a jug of coolant at the dealer, all that they have was the orangeish-pink stuff.

So I have used it to top off the reservoir, thus mixing my colors.

I "assume" that this is acceptable?

    Confusing, for sure.
I'd read an OAT related thread that stated the color is only a dye & not chemistry. It'd be nice if "Fiat Cares" could chime in to clarify if/when the OAT mix changed color NOT formula. One may have no option other than to mix pink & purpe. But if they're both OAT, then it shouldn't matter.

I looked specifically for OAT & MS-12106 on the Mopar bottle as called out on the expansion tank and the manual.
