Unbelievably Easy Install - 500 Madness SS Adapter

First off, this information is for members looking to install this part properly for the first time. This is the first time in my experience installing aftermarket parts, the supplemental instruction from the manufacturer have to many steps that can actually be omitted. I literally skipped 4 steps out 12 to make install extremely simple using plastic (trim) tool, 4mm Hex, and flat screwdriver.

Basically, DO NOT remove the shifter from the shifting/housing assembly. The white clip around the housing assembly is a $50 dollar part, which cannot be bought by itself. This can easily break when you pry out incorrectly so omit step 6,7,10 from the 500 Madness website DIY instruction. It is a PDF file with color pictures.

Also, omit step 5. You only need to pry off the cable socket from the ball on the shifter lever, illustrated on step 4. That is it fellas! Once this is removed, I used my plastic pry tool (between joint by the ball, step 4) to apply even lateral pressure then a twist the screwdriver pops it off.

Then, just simply install SS adapter over the shifter ball, illustrated on step 9 while the shifter is still intact in the housing. The ball and 4mm bolt on the Madness part is the one keeping together. Fits perfectly. A little tugging, not pulling, of the center console (the right side when you tighten the silver 4mm bolt) will allow you to fit your hex key to tighten the SS adapter over the OEM shifter. So, most of the time DYI instructions requires you to be crafty and imaginative due to lack of information. This time around it was the opposite. I didn't even have to remove my knob and leather boot, just carefully slipped it through the center console piece shown on step 2.

The part comes with blue loctite. This is now $9 at ACE hardware. Can't believe that madness even supplies this with the SS adapter. Dont forget to apply to 4mm bolt and ball (threaded part). Grease ball. I used high temp grease for steering, suspension, and axle. It's the brown grease in a $4 dollar can from AutoZone.

Do this at your own risk. Not responsible for any damages or headaches. Don't fumble any part that can fall into the main center console, you'll be sorry and disregard the tip I just supplied to you. Better to do this with two extra hands. Cheers.

I just wanted to mention that the post was written to help new members/new owners looking to install aftermarket parts. Some of us here are newbies incl. myself when it comes down to this particular vehicle. This is my first italian/american made car. If there is a similar post for this D.I.Y, admin please take it down. My similar post at FiatTech caused quite a stir and vendor bashing.

Just wanted to say that the white shifter-ball cage CAN be purchased by itself, from one of the vendors for a few dollars. I can't remember whose site I saw it on; might be Madness's. Btw, mine is black, from a later-model 2013. But it's the same thing.

Take it down...nah, sticky it instead. Popular mod and it sort of applies to the Neu-F offering that came before this adapter, they are basically the same as far as installation.
