    Interior Lights Won't Shut Off

We just bought a new 500X, and the interior lights won't shut off. Is there a control or setting I am missing?

I don't have an X model but the Abarth has "push switches" on each light that can activate or turn them off. I would see if you also have these and if someone has just pushed the buttons on each of them so they're on all the time.

We have a 500L, and I once made the mistake of thinking the interior lights were off (the two flanking the rear view mirror located above and center), but they weren't and they drained the battery down to nothing over a period of days. If they're off they should dim to off after about 10 seconds or so; if not, see which is on (maybe they both are) before reopening the door(s) and make sure they are off, and then make sure you turn off the offending light(s). Of course once the door is open you won't be able to see if in fact you've turned them off, so you'll have to close the door(s) again and wait the 10 seconds or so to be sure they're off (and give you some peace of mind). A feature I think all cars should have is the auto-dimming to off after a period of time of all interior lights (my Cruze shuts off all interior lights after about 20 minutes or so, even when there are doors open. They will turn on again if you open or close and reopen a door. A nice safety feature that ensures you don't drain your battery).

Just took delivery yesterday of a 500x with the identical issue----Both front dome lights and rear dome light are on when driving and cannot turn off manually...Called "Fiat Cares" and was told that the lights turn off 15 minutes after the car is locked...This proved to be the case, however was advised that need to take the car in for service in regard to them staying on while operating the vehicle (Could not find any reference to the overhead interior lights in the users manual, and the fuse controlling the front dome is associated with other systems so couldn't pull it....Maybe FIAT has a fix at the dealership level...We are a small sample so sounds like this must be pretty common...

Just for for the sake of clarity, you've tried both switches in the middle position?

Don't see any "middle Position", only the push type switch that controls the left and right light separately---Am I missing something. (This is a 2016 500X Easy FWD)....Thanks

Well, thanks to Bluecorn's suggestion went back to the X and hit the switches on the front domes and rear dome and closed the door...Sure enough, 15 sec later, all three lights went out...(Still don't know why I couldn't turn them off while in the car...)---But at any rate, no urgent need to revisit the FIAT store----Love the bloody thing---seemed big at first (used to the 500c, I guess) but very responsive and roomy----It was a hard decision between the X and the L (The wife loved the roominess and great visibility afforded by the L, but I loved the powertrain on the X and the more rounded style...)

    Thanks again, Bluecorn!

    JFP:

Mystery solved. On the lower part of the dash left of the steering column, you will find two sliding switches for interior lighting (dashboard intensity, and lights that illuminate front cup holder area)...The sliding switch closest to the wheel has a detent at the top of its travel. If you go past this detent, the interior domelights will stay on and you will be unable to turn them off by using the roof switches either in the front or rear to turn them off...The lower sliding switch overrides them...This is not covered in the 200 pg users manual but may be covered in the 500 pg users manual which can be ordered from Fiat Cares at no charge.....
