New to Fiat...but not new to E

This is my first time on a forum that isn't a German car forum. =) I am happily in a Fiat 500e as of today! I was in a Tesla but sold that. I still have a 240V Nema 14-50 outlet in my garage but I guess that won't work as a 240V plug for the J1772 that is needed for the quicker charge in the 500e. Has anyone had any luck converting 14-50 to a suitable 240v outlet for the chargers? And does everyone use the Fiat one?

I tend to be very active in forum (on Tesla forums and on BMW forums) so I hope to contribute to this forum.

Congrats on the 500e and welcome to the forum!

Sorry I can't help with the electric car; I've only test driven a few and was pretty impressed with them (BMW i3, Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, not so impressed with the little Mitsubishi one).

Of those I liked the BMW the most, but have just seen a window sticker, priced around $51,000 as I recall!

Would love to see the 500e in more states, but some time last year Sergio Marchionne basically stated they are losing money on them and probably only offer them in California since it's required!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your e! I had the great pleasure of driving a 500e and really enjoyed it. Smooth, quiet and fun! Post some pictures when you can and maybe start an thread in the owners forum (here). I'm not familiar with the chargers so maybe someone can answer that. We have a few threads on them.

I saw a lot 500E's on the road in LA, two months ago. I saw a couple BMW i3's too. There are Nissan Leaf's, and Tesla's everywhere here. Kansas City, is adding 1,000 more changing station here. Free changing for a year too. Too bad we can't get more EV's here now.

Hi there, welcome. I know what you mean about the German forums- I've been active on the BMW, Audi and Porsche ones at different times. Fun cars, but I really love my "e"! And that's coming from an Audi S4

The chargers sold by Fiat are from AeroVironment because they have a marketing arrangement. You can use any other J1772 charger, and many 500e owners do.

    You have several options.

Some home chargers come with a cord that plugs into a 240V outlet. The AeroVironment TurboCord sold by Fiat is this type. You can find a different charger that comes with a 14-50 plug, or have an electrician change your outlet to a different type. Alternatively, you can get an adapter that would allow the charger to plug into a 14-50 outlet.

Other home chargers (this is actually more common) are directly wired to the power and must be installed by an electrician. The wall mounted AeroVironment charger sold by Fiat is this type. In your case, the electrician will rewire the power to go to the charger instead of your 240V outlet.

I actually also have a BMW M4 so this is quite a departure. However, I might get rid of the M4 as most of my driving is now more local and I almost never drive it. I will always still frequent the BMW forums as I still have other beemer cars and I love the culture on there.

I have a 335d and recently got rid of my Porsche 987R (Cayman R) in favor of the new Z06...which is an AMAZING car.

Lot's of folks who love cars have 500e as part of the stable.

How did you like the Cayman R. I was seriously considering that car. I drove the new Z06 and I loved it but its too impractical for me these days...which is too bad.
