Thread: FIAT on the Dragon event April 10-12, 2015 Mark your calendars!

I am sorry to hear about the room problems. I will look into it and make some adjustments. My goal was to find a place that had decent rooms/price with lots of common outside area. I could easily book the Holiday Inn but it seemed less intimate and I wanted a local flavor that the Tally Ho Inn offered. I know it is not the nicest but it was fairly cheap and had lots of local flavor. Obviously, the next event will require a larger hotel. There are other hotels in the area that I could consider. I have a close relationship with the events coordinator at the Holiday Inn, Downtown Knoxville. They have the space and a nice parking garage we could use. The rates would be closer to $110 per night thought. I have always thought a downtown event would be fun, less intimate though.

I appreciate these comments and really do want to improve the circumstances for this event. Personally, I loved the outdoor eating and camp fire part of this time but others may not have so much. It is an evolving thing and I am not tied to any one venue.
Thanks for the feedback, keep t coming please.
    Brett

I'll definitely be there next year. After seeing all the video's and pictures I'm pissed I didn't make this one, especially knowing I'll miss out on FreakOut.

Maps has Cherokee, NC to Deals gap a 1 hour 10 min. drive what kind of roads? I have never been over there but Harrahs looks like it would hold all of us? OOPS never mind just looked at the rates WOW! I stayed at one on the way down 4 stars at 49.00 thought it would be close to the same this one is 175.

Not going to stay in Cherokee. We drove through there on our way back and it is not the vibe I am going for with this event.

Downtown would be cool, but next to impossible to organize and keep 50+ cars together. Places like Tally Ho work perfectly for what's trying to be accomplished because they want and appreciate us being there, and it gives the group the necessary space to do what it needs to do. I've stayed in more hotels than I care to think about and it's been my experience that there is almost always something to complain about in most. Tally Ho served it's purpose pretty darn well, while providing comfortable enough accommodations for the small amount of time I was actually there.

It seems to be related to the older and newer sections of the Tallyho, overall I am cool with being there but I was voicing the concerns I heard mentioned during the stay. I did like the Holiday Inn Express in Alcoa TN for the Spring 2013 run, nice extras were an indoor heated pool and an included continental breakfast with the room costing about the same as it did at the Tallyho.

I heard about the shower issue with Tweak and Shadow, and that's a bummer. Someone should tell the manager there so it gets fixed if that hasn't already happened. My room was perfectly fine, no complaints. I was all the way in the back, which I think is one of the newer buildings? Overall I thought Talley Ho was a good option to host our size group, the big open field, clubhouse, and fire pit are all pluses that most chain hotels don't have.

We could consider sharing Fontana Village with the Wookies (which I'm fine with, they're cool people) or take over Tapoco Lodge, which is much spendier and more of an all-inclusive retreat/resort.

I'm gonna look around too, I've got friends that go there often and a few from close to there - and I think its worth looking into other places as well.

I didn't try the spaghetti, but the bbq was pretty good Sat nite. I would like to not repeat the $19 sandwich from Friday lunch tho, as I discussed with the two others helping coordinate the event (really bad with names, sorry.....) we could do a picnic lunch; as in have one of them or whomever stop by Subway/IGA and pick up our lunch $5/6 ea and us have a picnic lunch at Deals Gap or Fontana Dam, or something to that effect. I dont wanna organize it, just my suggestion.

Just trying to throw a few options out there, overall I would give the experience a 7/10, there were a few things I was sort of expecting to be different.

Last objection and then I will stop my complaining - on the runs we need to sort out smaller groups. Like 10-15, not 34 and 55 some odd. Makes it difficult to keep up when we get separated, like the Devils Triangle ordeal, separated 4 times getting there...

As I said, overall I liked the event and will return; I'm done complaining about my first world problems now.
    Mods I don't have:
