    Fiat's on the Dragon, April 3-6, 2014

Ok I'll admit I'm a little confused regarding this springs' FotD meet. Just so it's firmed up and in one thread I can wrap my head around:

    When:
*Starts Thursday, April 3rd, 2014. Ends Sunday, April 6th

    Where:
*Tally Ho Inn is the host accommodation in Townsend, TN

    What:
*Scenic and spirited drives through the beautiful Smokey Mountains, including pre-planned routes such as the Tail of the Dragon, and Devils Triangle.

I've been to the Dragon a lot. I was one of the co-founders of the MINI's on the Dragon back in '03, and I've been at least once a year since then. There are some basics to cover:
*Weather: rain or shine. Don't be a hero and bring your racing slicks.
*Safety: Several motorcyclists die every year trying to navigate these roads, and occasionally a motorist too. These roads are dangerous. Chances are you're not as good a driver as you want to brag about to your forum-mates. #1 is being able to drive your car back home in one piece. Driving 10/10ths here is not smart, always leave some headroom for when a boar, deer, or bear decides its their road, or when a stray muscle car forgets he can't use both lanes, or a cocky sport-biker decides to cross the double yellow to pass a slow sedan and ends up in your windshield. All very common occurrences, yes seriously.
*Fun: This place is super fun, super beautiful, and super secluded. When enjoyed responsibly, it's among one of the most amazing getaway weekends you'll ever have.

To the organizers, please add fundamental things I'm forgetting!

    See you there,
    Ryan

    Good information.
The first two events went off without incident but as the event gets larger that goal may become more difficult to reach but hopefully not.
The Hotel is giving participants a 20% discount so make sure to call to make your reservation.
Thanks Brett for all of your work organizing this!

    Good stuff!

I recommend that anyone who hasn't ran the Dragon before read killboy.com's tips for riding/driving US-129. Most of them are common sense but they can save your life or someone else's that didn't read them.

    http://killboy.blogspot.com/p/driving-tips.html

And to give you an idea of where your car needs to be on the road:

The white line is your friend. Mmmkay?

Looking forward to another great meet!

Great points Ryan and as Trevor and David stated we had a lot of fun safely the last two times and it seems to be growing so safety will become more and more important.

Also, for those returning, TJ with the WRX plans to join us again this spring. Odd man out but he really enjoys you guys and the ride so thought I'd share that with you guys.

Found this to have some great tips on the Tail. I’m sure the Mini guys don’t mind sharing.

Good info. As Trevor and Tweak mentioned, we've had the good fortune to not have any serious incidents at the first two meets. Nobody, including me, wants to be "that guy". I'm happy to say that the 18 wheeler traffic has diminished quite a bit since NC made most of them illegal on the Dragon. I do wish TN would do the same. Meeting one in a curve will certainly ruin your day.

They're still going up during the week. The last time I was up there was at like 8am and there was a semi that tried to make it up from the TN side and failed miserably. He had to drop his trailer about 2/3's the way up the mountain just to get back down. Those guys should really read the signs that start way, way out from the actual run.
