Fiat/Mopar trailer hitch for the 500L

Hey Jonathan from Fiat Cares I would love to know when Fiat/Mopar will release the trailer hitch for the 500L. Curt has one now but it is located way back underneath the bumper. A bike rack would have to be almost 10" long to plug into the hitch since it's mounted so far underneath the bumper. And even though they have them on their web site they don't actually have then available.

So that's why I would love to know when Fiat/Mopar will release the hitches that you have just waiting on a crash safety ok. Am certain many others in this forum would also love to know when they can get a Fiat/Mopar trailer hitch. Thanks in advance for your soonest reply.

I wouldn’t look for anything before the first of the year. Still in testing in Italy

Thanks Jonathan. I'll have a Curt brand hitch on my 500L a lot sooner than that. I heard from a local hitch shop last Friday. They said they may have a hitch here early this week. I really wanted to see what the design was for the Fiat/Mopar hitch, mainly to see if it's also located way underneath the bumper. That's where the Curt hitch goes. But it's not a problem for this hitch shop. They will do some custom modifications to it so it will plug in close to the edge of my bumper. Without that modification my bike rack would never plug in that far under the bumper. They plan to beef up the support for this extension. They do such modifications all the time.

Curt hitch now installed. Did not have to do any modifications to extend the hitch as it comes quite close to the edge of the bumper. From the pictures of the installed hitch on the Curt site it looks like it's was way back under the bumper, but not so in reality. I still had to use a hitch extender for this rack as it would otherwise be literally right on the bumper. Nice hitch.

Will ask Andree to post the pictures for me as they do not get added with my I-Pad.

By the way, that's the largest size it will let me post, it said the next size up was too big for this forum.

Most interesting to read Jonathan. It's a tad too late for me as I already have a Curt brand hitch on my 500L. I just use it for my hitch mount bike rack, holds 2 bikes nicely. Will be interesting for other 500L owners to see how this new hitch gets installed. For my Curt brand hitch they had to remove the rear bumper to install the hitch. Will be interesting to see if the same must be done for the Fiat/Mopar hitch. Will also be interesting to see what the Fiat/Mopar hitch will cost.
