I dont think the type of dyno is necessary to measure power gain. As long as the base run and the comparing runs are done under the same circumstances. For example regardless if the base run shows 150whp or 500whp the percent change in power should be the same and that is what people should be looking at, not peak HP

I don't see anyone stating that you need to push the Sport button!

    Anything im missing?
I recommend running in 4th gear first then letting the car cool for 10 minutes and try a 3rd gear pull. I would also review the dyno with smoothing turned up to 5 and than all the way down to 1. I have made many pulls with the 500 and this has always worked very well for us.

What is the deal with this hood open or shut crap?

I have been through the whole ECU and I don't see any performance related issues that are attached to the hood being open or closed. This came up over on the Dart forums as well and I am not understanding why or what is happening with the hood open. I have dyno'ed way more 1.4 turbo engines than anyone (LOL) and we have never seen any gains or losses from the hood open or closed.

Sport button = Press it yes... (easy to forget to do, ergo create a checklist)

Hood = Agree it makes very little difference, but if someone is spending money on a dyno, might as well be as accurate as possible and to me even 2 horsepower makes a difference. By the time we are done tuning our individual cars to the best of our resources and ability, it can come down to a few horsepower on the 1/4 mile or the track. Some might call that anal and irrelevant, others call it essential. To each their own, and I'm not going to try to convince anyone whether 1 or 2 hp make a difference. Normally a 4th gear pull in the real world won't even affect IATs significantly whether you are on the road or on a dyno because there is so much airflow. But if you start from idle and are dealing with heatsoak (crap some of the intake designs for our cars have metal pipes running directly over the turbo), it's hard to argue that having the hood open doesn't drastically lower IATs enough to affect horsepower.

I'll shut up though because Norcal is doing a before and after dyno run that is looking at the delta from a software tune. Given that's his objective with the dyno, then as long as the hood is open on both runs, he's good to go anyways. If he was comparing different intake designs under different real world driving conditions, then proper fan cooling and hood being down most certainly make a big difference, otherwise we'd all be running short ram intakes lol, or ones that run metal pipes over the turbo.
