Importing classic 500 from Italy to US

Hi guys, I'm on a mission to import a classic 500 from Italy into the US. I currently live in Italy and will be returning to Oregon at the end of the year and I've fallen in love with the idea of bringing a piece of Italy back with me. I am struggling to find information and have just got off the phone with the Oregon DMV. I've established that because it's over 25 years it's exempt from Emissions and Safety standards, I'm just not sure about the Federal Vehicle Standards - the DMV wasn't able to give any more information than I already knew from their website. I know that there was a 500 developed for the US market with frog eye headlights because the European version didn't meet standards, but does that still apply as it's a classic now?

Can anyone help? Also, does anyone know anything about insuring one too? Thanks!

Over 25yrs and I think all it has is a simple safety inspection and you can place historic plates regardless if it passes emissions and safety standards, over 25yrs and I think its an open market.

Hi guys, reviving this thread as I am also trying to find information to import my 1969 classic Fiat 500 from Italy into the US. I have a rough idea about what I need to do, but was wondering if anybody has experience with it and can give me more info/details on how to best get this done?
The car is currently parked in Liguria Italy, half way between Nice and Genoa on the coast, and I am trying to get it shipped to Atlanta Georgia, USA. Does anybody know? Many thanks in advance!

funny you revived this today, i was just reading this at work today. Not exactly the same, since you already own the car, but may be helpful, and maybe you can contact the author and see if they have any advice

Thank you, I have not come across this article yet, that's helpful information! I am currently waiting on quotes, but this is giving me a general idea about what I'll be looking at I guess...

if you own the vehicle its a straight forward process ,l have imported many cars to North America .
The shipping company will take care of all the necessary paperwork (Clearance ,Export tax) .
