Slammed? Maybe not, but how about the Euro height? Anyone have info on that? That looks perfect.

Well, I actually sat in them. They (both red and white) were garnering more attention than any other FIAT available while I was at the auto show on Sat. I heard both positive and negative comments from show goers. It will be interesting to see how well the Abarth 500c does when it becomes available.

N00dle,

How did you feel about the new Fiat 500C Abarth when you saw it in person? For a high performance four passenger cabrio it has the most interior space, rear-seat leg room and shoulder room among key competitors. I think people are going to love that combined with the turbocharged, track-capable performance and the open top design, of course!

It's great the hear your feedback.

First of all I don't have an Abarth, nor have a driven one. With that being said I personally loved it. Being a native of sunny SoCal my whole life I have a soft spot for fun convertibles as a fun toy for my local commutes and jaunts. My last convertible was a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder. What the Spyder lacked was power, which the Abarth 500c has more of in comparison and with it being turboed there's room to squeeze out a little more power with aftermarket support as already shown with the hardtop Abarth. I prefer rear wheel drive cars, but have come to accept what the Abarth is.

I couldn't really tell a difference sitting in the Abarth 500c and the hardtop Abarth, other than having an open roof over my head in the Abarth 500c. It felt more like a big sunroof as opposed to a conventional convertible due to the door frame and rear quarter still being there. With the frame still there it does give an added sense of security though in the event of a roll over.

Chrysler was at the LA Auto Show with a fleet of cars for test drives and they happened to have a Fiat 500c w/auto trans. I took it out for a spin and liked everything the convertible had to offer with the exception of the huge blind spot directly behind me when the top was all the way down. I also ride a sportbike, so I'm somewhat used to not always seeing what's directly behind me. It didn't bother me as much as it may for others. When I moved to top 1 position up from being fully down I was able to see through the rear glass with out issue. I think this is something one would just get used to with a 500c.

Having witnessed how much attention and acceptance the Abarth 500c was attracting at the show I think it has at least piqued a lot of interest for Fiat and its offerings. For those in the market of an exciting and fun with more emphasis on "fun" drop top, the Abarth 500c may just be the ticket.

I would prefer they went this route - a proper roadster instead of the slide back roof (ala Smart convertible):

Wow. Just simply, wow. Fiat if you see that, please put it into production and DON'T give it a roof, or it will end up looking like the Mini Roadster thing: ugly.

I personally like the sliding roof. It has the design continuity of the older car plus a much more rigid chassis then could be achieved with a fully open car. Open cars are great to look at and are fun, but nearly all loose some handling precision due to chassis flex when compared to their closed roof relatives. Plus, you get into weather sealing, windnoise and window fitment issues and these get worse as the car ages. The 500c door window design will remain nice and tight long after a conventional convertibles windows start rattling and get sucked out of place while driving. That's my take on it.

My M3 vert has a huge blind spot, so does my Solara, are you suggesting some vert don't have a blind spot ? If so then please name the verts w/o blindspot !!

The hatch roof creates buffering wind noise, another reason the cab and hardtop hatch are popular, the sunroof = $2000 because heated seats are optioned with it .

The cab has a windscreen $200 part to add, but it don't need it because the cab is QUITE in any of the 3 way slide config @70mph (unlike the sunroof open or tilted which is way loud like your head out the window loud ! )

the cab has 33lb extra roll bar & no glass to shatter or fly off on impact (i seen it happen to t-tops & sunroof in a 100mph roll)
