My warning light came on and on starting, the change engine oil message came on at 3750 miles. Upon checking, the oil level is not low. Why would the change oil indicator occur?

My warning light came on and on starting, the change engine oil message came on at 3750 miles. Upon checking, the oil level is not low. Why would the change oil indicator occur?

Because the car's computer has a builtin 'oil monitor' algorithm. It will illuminate the change oil indicator at either 4,000 miles (approx 3,750) or 8,000 miles (approx 7,750) based on your type of driving. It turns the indicator on early to allow time to schedule the maintenance. In your case it has determined that your oil needs changing at the 4,000 miles mark. The dealer will reset this system when they do the oil change so that it will start monitoring anew.

That particular indicator has nothing to do with low oil level.

The oil monitor system will NOT monitor time since last oil change, so if you reach 6 months since your last change and the indicator has not come on you should get your oil changed anyway.

Everything is working as it was designed at the moment.
