Yeah I heard about the Paceman being definite on Sunday at my mini meeting... ok nice.. I still think they need to look at the Rocketman concept to make a small car less expensive.. Mini has been pricing themselves out of a market...

for Fiat to make a sporty 2 door AWD... and still have a 500 moniker... why does that not seem to be so hard to imagine

btw does anyone think any of these upcoming Fiat models should be rebadged as 600's??? :)

There was another article on the X and L in the "Detroit Free Press" the other day:

I'm hoping the styling of both the 500L and 500X will 'grow on me' as the sneak peek of the X reminds me of...well...lots of other small SUVs and the L a little too much like a Countryman.

As for the moniker, I think the reason they didn't go with 600 (Chris?) is that they are trying to establish 500 as a sub-family of similar-flavored vehicles. I would have loved to see them use 'Panorama' or 'Giardiniera' for the wagoversions but Americans can't say the second word and 'Panorama' has fallen out of use as has 'Weekend' - i.e. 'Fiat Regata Weekend' and 'Fiat 131 Panorama'.

This is, of course, until I see the L and the X in the flesh. Could be a totally different experience. We haven't seen the American-spec L yet so who knows. If they offer that full-glass roof (which we usually don't get, ugh) I'm totally ready to go take a look. And I do like the interior, looks fun and light like most of the other FIAT interiors.
FIAT does seem okay with bringing the cars here without watering down the kit which has made me very happy.
Might want to go back to 4-doors, we'll see. If not, I'm very okay with the 500 as long as they leave it alone for the most part :)

Yep, the Fiat 500 is the first Fiat model to use its own name as a logo, as can be seen on the wheel hubs and rims.

And inside the headlights, on the floor mats and above the glove compartment. In my car, it also says it on both door sills too :)

I think the 500L looks far enough away from the 500 that it should be called the 600.

That was a possibility but it was dropped in favor of the 500 because the 600 doesn't have the same cache' throughout the world. Talking to insiders, there are those that aren't signed off on naming everything the 500 just like a lot of us.

I was reading from a uk car website that Fiat might be offically showing off the Fiat 500x in italy around the same place they did for the 500 in 2004, on july 4. so what do you guys think do you think what engine that can fit in the 500x? I am hoping that they can fit 2.4L multiair, and hopefully have the nav from the 500 L in their also.

I hope that the Fiat 500x is the crossover car we have been all waiting for. a car big enough for 4-5 people plus room for stuff, and a car that is as much as a looker as the fiat 500. I hope that the transmission is worth the wait. I hope that the engine is 2.4L multiair. I think we should have also a bigger tank also I remember hearing that that car will be longer just a little bit so I want the car to have a bigger tank. I would like to see 450 miles per tank. I would be happy if it could get 500 miles per tank. I hope that Fiat offers TFT touch screen for the nav and radio, MP3. I think when it comes out it will feature backup camera. I would love to see Fiat will a motortrend or car and driver award. so what do you guys think this 500x of the USA will have? I dont its impossible to know for sure but we can guess and dream.
