Well folks... not sure of what I did... since there is no demo car to test drive... there is really no formal order process as the ordering system is not open... But I just gave some of my $$ to the local FIAT Studio (Fields FIAT, Orlando, FL) for a chance to order a car when it becomes available... Nuts if you ask me...

Since nothing could be entered in the system, I just gave Tom Mikl a list of what I wanted in the car. Now, keep in mind, this will become my daughter's car when she has her permit. That means that we ordered the car based on what she liked...

2012 FIAT 500 Abarth
Color: Rosso
Wheels: 16x6.5-inch Cast Aluminum Grigio with Painted Pockets Standard
Exterior Option: Red Mirror Caps and Black Bodyside Stripe
Interior Option: Leather Trim Black Seats with Rosso Stitching
Interior Option: Power sunroof
Interior Option: Automatic Temperature Control
Interior Option: Security alarm
Interior Option: TomTomŪ Navigation with BLUE&METM(2)

It was a shame that the 3/36 maintenance program is no longer offered... that sucks.

Anyway, some day, soon I hope, we will be driving our new FIAT 500 Abarth! :eagerness:

I have to be honest...my daughter runs the risk of me not wanting to let the car go, lol. If the Abarth is more fun than the regular 500 I have test driven, well, she might end up with a beater as a first car... :sneakiness:

Congrats. I think you'll find that it will be hard to give up the Abarth. Also from your signature it looks like you have a nice list of cars. An 81 Spider 2000 was my first encounter with FIAT. Also Im a german car nut so the 911s and the X5 pique my interest. You have some great taste in cars

Congrats! Your daughter is lucky to have you as a parent. I just moved from the Tampa area, and experienced the Clearwater dealership...on Gulf to Bay Road. Really good dealership, lots of cars on the lot and nice Studio. Don't know the Orlando dealership (but have heard very good things about them too) Anyway, just mentioning in case any issues.

Now up on Cape Cod where I am now...no dealerships in the area at all...sheesh.

Nearest is Providence RI, one "somewhat under construction" in Norwood, looks like the Hyannis dealership (Premiere Chrysler Jeep) has given up the dream, they dont even post or answer on their Facebook page anymore. They knocked down a building to build the Studio, but it's just been a vacant lots for many months now. Chris any chance you know if the Cape Cod dealership is still coming?

Congrats on your "deposit" and hope you and your daughter love it.

Got a call last night. If I understood correctly, and please do not quote me on this since I had a few beers on me, lol, dealers are allowed to order one or two cars in addition to the Demo car they are getting. So my order goes in this morning. :encouragement: Only thing left out were the mirror caps in red, it will come with black mirror caps & the black side stripes, and the other options I listed above.

ETA for arrival was quoted at 6-8 weeks.

Weight to power ratio is almost the same as my highly modified 1992 GTI. My car is a rocket, and a blast to drive. I can only imagine with new technology this car will be amazing! I'll try to let you know as I just got wind that a buddy of mine may let me borrow his Abarth! He works for Chrysler, so he already has his. He's at least going to give me a spin in it. I guess living in Michigan has SOME perks! :D

Here's the deal with dealers ordering cars:

After reading on another forum I have figured this much out...

-Dealers get their demo cars sometime at the middle/end of March and beginning of April.
-Dealers cannot place orders for customers cars until later in March, the only VIN's that have been approved to be released/built are those of the first dealer cars (aka the Demo cars).
-Customers should start seeing delivery of their Abarths around June/July.

This is going to make the wait waaaaaay more agonizing haha

I am not just sitting around waiting. I am getting ready!! :D Got two key chains from Vicks Auto. I was ordering a few parts for my Spider and at 5.95 each I could not pass them up.

Wachuko, what it means from what I can tell is that your Abarth order is in and as a result there is a VIN associated with it. However, it has not yet been built. You should see a code D1 when it is actually scheduled for build and then as it goes through the build and delivery process new codes will show up. Mine went from scheduled for build to built in a matter of days and then went to code JS "shipped to storage" and now is waiting. Once I see KZ it shouldn't be too much longer before it ships. Hoping that happens in a week or so. Here is my page as of today:

Train Arrival 04/23/2012 12:50 AM EDT On Railcar - Waycross, GA

Hi wachuko,

Waycross, GA - interesting. When I searched freight rail lines for Florida, it looked like CSX might be the carrier from New Orleans. And, on their map, it looked like mine would have to go through Mobile, Pensacola, Tallahassee and almost to Jacksonville before turning back southwest to get to Tampa. That railcar with your Abarth needs to get headed south again, doesn't it :)

Cheers.

And yes! that train better start turning south! lol

We enjoyed the S. It handled really well and we didn't have any of the problems other people seem to have had....but we only kept it a bit over a year. Fun thing was when we took a lap at Laguna Seca at a huge national Mini event. It was a massive number of mini's at the same time so some of us tried to slow down to get more space between us, then speed up through the corners. The only mistake would have been to speed up at the famous (or infamous) "corkscrew" if you hadn't actually driven that corner before.

My wife really liked the S too. I guess I just got a little bored and ready for something else. HOWEVER, when my Abarth finally arrives, I'm keeping it forever! Back to my roots!

Arrived at Destination 04/25/2012 04:09 AM EDT On Railcar - Taft, FL

Excited for you, wachuko :) ....closer and closer to your actually picking it up.

Mine ended up going through Waycross, GA like yours did. Surprised but I guess I shouldn't have been. The updates/cars really seem to bounce around a lot.

For example, yesterday in the AM, insight said it departed Waycross.
And, in the afternoon, surprisingly it said: Current - Train Arrival - On Railcar - Tampa, which meant it arrived Tampa a day earlier than forcast. But the Unloaded date pushed out to the 26th.

This morning "Current" shows train departed Tampa, then to be placed at destination facility (apparently somewhere else in Tampa) this afternoon and to be UNLOADED this evening (so now that's back to the 25th):

Unloaded From Railcar 04/25/2012 08:00 PM EDT Tampa, FL
Vehicle Delivered to Dealer 04/30/2012 12:01 AM EDT Sunset D/c/j Sarasota, FL

And the 'Delivered to Dealer' date keeps bouncing between 4/30 and 5/1. Odd to me that it sits so long so close to the dealer....but the Sales Mgr says that what always happens.

Makes my head spin :)

If you belong to a Credit Union, did you try one of them too? I managed 1.99% for 60 months on my Sport last year...now I think they're at 1.79% for up to 60 months.

This is what I have so far... Dealer (via Bank of America) 3.69%; Sun Trust 2.99%, Pentagon Federal (PenFed) 1.99% (this last one is the one that I should get an answer today). All @ 60 months.

Navi Federal has a 1.79% @ 60 and 1.99% @ 72 but I don't have someone with an ID to be able to join...

BTW, I have a set of those stainless steel tire valve cover caps with the Abarth scorpion on them. If you let me know in advance when you'll be picking up I can try and make it to give them to you.

I will let you know! Thank you.

Awesome! So close! Mine was just built yesterday so I'll be in your position next month. Looking at that picture your car looks like its being showcased up top while that little green one is hurting.

Max,

Thank you!!! We are at the dealer right now doing all the paper work. Tom just gave us what you left for us. Thanks again.

We will be here for awhile if you are close by. Cheers!

Love the decals! Boris does good work, was it hard to mount large one?

You really need an extra pair of hands for that one... you want to use some soapy water to make it easy to get the air bubbles out... the challenge is that to peel it out of the back paper requires someone hold the decal against the car while you pull... because the soapy water will not allow complete adhesion while you work... I hope that makes sense.... then it is just using a rubber/soft plastic squeegee to get the water out.

I used an exacto knife to cut around the gas door and presto!

Again, the trick here is having someone to help you.

Much more wheel gap than I expected. I will definitely have to get coilovers. Other than that, the car looks great.

Yeah, I tried to get them to wear a tuxedo but they said no... :P

Seriously, that was not the intention. We had just finished attending my son's Karate competition and we had order t-shirts to match for that event. :)
