So I recently purchased one of these:

It's a phone holder made for the GPS socket on our fiats (pre-2016). I gotta say, this thing is excellent. it snaps right in, and sits a little closer and lower than the GPS itself. The grips expand to hold your phone, and it rotates for horizontal or vertical orientation.

I'll do som more testing with this, then post some pictures. but this is worth checking out.

Does it pick up 12V power from the plug or is it only a physical mount?

Just a physical mount.

Dang, it would be nice to have the phone held there and also have power. I assume there is 12V power on those pins and someone could take apart a cigarette lighter charger and use the circuit to make a charger in some sort of cradle that goes in the dash.

Guess I better learn to design 3D printed things and come up with one.

Yeah, there are some 3d printed designs around, but i just ran a cord under the dash panel and up the speedo. It's good enough and not in my way. I'm really impressed with this holder. simple, but works perfectly.
