The rear fog light is mandatory in Europe.
I would like to know what solutions exist.
My DIY skills are very poor...

Maybe you can retrofit the European taillights? The US car's taillamps are technically slightly larger, plus the wiring would have to be adapted. You would definitely need a good level of DIY skill to do that. Maybe a friend could help? Or, I have seen add on rear fog lights that go under a bumper. Maybe HELLA has them? Try a local accessories store near you. Let us know how you make out as I'm sure others have the same issue.

I'd think this wouldn't be too hard... you can recode the body computer with AlfaOBD to tell it the car has a rear fog light. Then you'd either need to run a wire to the tail light, or it might be wired individually already, and replace the clear reverse bulb with a red LED.

Bump.

Have you been able to find an elegant solution? My new 2013 500e just arrived into Europe so I'm trying to solve that as well. I don't want to mess with the factory lights, so I ordered this thing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Bumper-Fog-Lamp-Light-Red-Light-For-Mitsubishi-Outlander-Sport-HW73/222406036100?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649), I'll see how it fits in the lower bumper. It will need a new switch somewhere on the dash though.
